The Wilmington Youth Jazz Band (WYJB) is organized and run by a volunteer board of directors. It exists to enhance music education and performance opportunities for members of the band. Each season, WYJB expenses include:
- Instructor and rehearsal space fees
- Printing costs: music, concert tickets & programs
- Tuition scholarships
As WYJB is a non-profit organization, to defer some of these costs for this season, parents of students who receive financial assistance are required to participate in 3 of 5 fundraisers. The following fundraising events are planned for the 2024-2025 season:
Sweet Frog fundraiser - fall 2024, spring 2025
Comedy show
Car Wash - spring 2025 (date to be determined)
Blue Rocks fundraising events
WYJB spring mixer – students are required to sell 5 tickets to the mixer
Financial Aid Requirements
The following criteria must be met in order to receive aid:
1. Proof of income: 2 most current pay stubs
2. Financial aid is based on income eligibility guidelines used by the USDA for free and reduced lunch. For each family size listed below, the income limit is indicated to the right of the size. Note chart below.
3. Financial aid recipients are required to pay the registration fee of $50 per child. If all financial aid requirements identified in the parent contract are met, then the $50 registration fee will be refunded at the end of the spring season.
4. If your application is approved, WYJB will waive the $150 of the tuition fee for the fall season and $200 of the tuition fee for the spring season. If your application is denied, then you will commit to make timely payments of tuition $100 (per child) by October 30 and $50 (per child) by November 30 for the fall season and $66.67 by February 28, $66.67 by March 30, and $66.67 by April 30 for the spring season.
5. Financial aid recipients and their parents are required to participate in a minimum of 3 WYJB fundraising activities.
6. Students are required to attend all practices and performances. If an emergency occurs, the student must notify the artistic director within 24 hours. The student may be asked to make up the rehearsal.
7. Students are expected to practice outside of rehearsal in order to master the performance pieces.
8. Students are expected to conduct themselves professionally during rehearsals and follow the instructions of the artistic director.
