Uplifting Parents Eligibility Review
Mission: To create stability and greater opportunities for single parent families through relationship-based mentoring and wraparound supports throughout their higher-education journey.
We work toward this mission by providing support and resources to single parent students through five essential elements:
- Mentorship
- Financial Assistance
- Parenting Resources
- Academic Support
- Career Readiness
Mentoring is the heart of the program and helps provide the holistic services and support that will assist you in completing your degree or certification and achieving economic stability for your family.
ELIGIBILITY
The Uplifting Parents program provides support to single parent students. To be eligible for Uplifting Parents, candidates must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Single parent, male or female, enrolled in a higher education degree or certificate program with plan to graduate within 24 months of enrolling into the UP program.
- Currently parenting at least 50% of the time or be an expectant mother.
- Has completed one semester with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 in the last 6 months and is enrolled in at least 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester (or equivalent for certificate programs).
- Can articulate career goals and why this degree/certificate program will help them achieve those goals.
- Present stability in basic needs; not currently struggling with ongoing crisis or currently experiencing substance misuse.
- Be self-motivated and committed to reaching their educational and career goals.
- Be able to commit to 2 hours per month for mentoring, mentoring may be done in person or virtual.
- Be willing to meet with an UP approved credit counselor or other financial literacy coach and share report with UP Mentor. Reports are used for financial goal setting.
- Be willing to complete parenting support and financial literacy support components through goal setting with mentor.
- Provide 2 referrals, one must be from an academic institution and referrals must not be family members or be a self-referral.
