Fostering shared leadership between boards and professional teams is crucial in our day-to-day leadership, and especially during this particular moment in the Jewish community. Join board and executive leaders from across the Leading Edge alumni community for a 30 hour, in-person leadership development forum!
What is shared leadership?
Shared leadership refers to the board-professional partnership, the way an organization's executive and board lead together as a team - and it's essential for a healthy, effective organization that successfully fulfills its mission. Beyond collaboration and communication, shared leadership is the capacity to lead as a team with a vision, to uphold a dynamic culture of integrity and boldness, and to strengthen the catalyst of lay-professional leadership. Great shared leadership is so much more: It creates and fosters the conditions for diverse voices to engage with curiosity, reflect on a shared purpose, and courageously align board values and culture. And, particularly at this moment, shared leadership within and outside of our communities requires us to build bridges and create collective responsibility in an unprecedented way.
What You'll Explore During the Alumni Forum*
- Leading Together Workshop: Uncover what a vibrant shared leadership culture looks like in action, its role in driving organizational health outcomes, and unpack the foundations of leading together as twin engines in achieving your organization's mission. Through individual reflection and interactive learning, dive into the key behaviors, pitfalls, and opportunities for prioritizing vision and culture in your shared leadership practices.
- Fireside Chat: This is an optional but highly recommended opportunity for a candid conversation with sector leaders and alumni on insights, experiences, and strategies for navigating effective shared leadership in action. We'll explore stories of hands-on partnership and merging strong points of view into a shared vision — get inspired and spark new ideas to reinvigorate your leadership relationships.
- Place-Based Learning: Explore the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and learn about the historical stakes of leading across lines of difference. Hear from the Center's CEO on her work in bridge-building, her perspective on communal leadership, and Jewish leadership in the "cradle of the modern Civil Rights Movement." Reflect on opportunities to lead change and build bridges in your organization and community of responsibility.
- Shared Leadership Labs: Immerse in practice-based learning labs on your topic of choice, from case studies on board culture to peer consulting on communications challenges and much more. Choose your own learning journey, reflect with peers, and emerge with actionable strategies to renew your commitment to shared leadership and vibrant culture.
