  • CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS AND SPECTATORS

    • Do not force unwillingly children to participate in sport, in this case rugby. Therefore, a child that
does not want to play rugby must not be forced by his or her parent(s) to play against his or her will
just for the enjoyment of the parent(s).
    • Be an example and sustain a healthy and balanced life style and thereby motivate your children to follow your example.
    • Remember! Players participate in rugby for the enjoyment thereof and not only for their parent(s)’ enjoyment.
    • Motivate your child to learn the rules of the game and to comply to the rules during the game, to constantly exercise and enhance his or her skills, that fitness requires hard and sustained work, that good discipline is not negotiable and that rugby is a team sport, that your child should be considered, unselfish and respect co-players and opponents at all times.
    • Teach your child that honest behavior just as important and joyful is as winning and that he or she must accept the outcome of a match without disappointment.
    • Teach your child to listen to, respect and adhere to the coach, team manager and referee’s instructions and requests.
    • Good sportsmanship is just as unnegotiable for the parents as for the players and coaching staff.
    • Teach your child to be humble after a win and to act with dignity after a loss.
    • Setting a good example is the best learning method for a child / player. Acts are mostly better than words.
    • Turn around a losing situation to a winning situation through by assisting and or motivating your child to develop and or enhance his or her skills, to increase his or her fitness and to apply in the match situation what the coach coached him or her during the training sessions.
    • Do not ever shout at your child, denigrate / belittle / humiliate him or her and or punish him or her afterwards when he or she made a mistake during a match or when the team lost a match.
    • Set an example and acknowledge your child, his or her co-players and the opponents when good play is delivered.
    • Encourage and support the whole team and not only your own child.
    • Do not encourage and support the team in such a way that it provoke, insult or intimidate the opponents and their supporters.
    • Do not place at all cost the emphasis on winning the match.
    • Do not ever use foul language and or show vulgar signs next to the field or in the presence of children. It is unpleasant, a very poor example and an embarrassment for the youth club and its supporters. That type of behavior will not be allowed and tolerated.
    • Do not EVER openly (visible/audible) question the judgement/opinion (and NEVER THE HONESTY) of the referee.
    • Do not EVER swear at / use abusive language towards / insult /physical attack the referee.
    • Disciplinary steps will be taken by TuksRugby and the University of Pretoria against you as parent and spectator. Do not do an injustice to or embarrass your child through your bad behavior.
    • Do not EVER swear at / use abusive language towards / insult /physical attack anybody else, that includes amongst other the players, opponents, coaches, team managers, officials, co-spectators and opponents’ spectators. Disciplinary steps will be taken by TuksRugby and the University of Pretoria against you as parent and spectator. Do not do an injustice to or embarrass your child through your bad behavior.
    • No use of alcohol and smoking are allowed next to or near the sport fields other than the dedicated and licensed areas. It is not only a transgression of the youth club’s and the university’s policy and regulations but also national legislation. Use alcohol and or smoke if necessary, within the dedicated areas in a responsible manner.
    • Do not arrive at the rugby field under the influence of alcohol, be an embarrassment to your child due to your condition and have the potential to transgress any other codes of conduct and create any trouble.
    • Support all efforts to get rid of all foul language, foul play and physical abuse on and off the field.
    • No parent will be allowed on the playing field even if your child is injured. It is in any case against the Boksmart rules. There are trained medical personnel that will treat and look after an injured player.
    • Obey also the home club’s rules and regulations.
    • Acknowledge and appreciate the value and importance of coaches, team managers and referees that are all voluntarily sacrificing their free time without any remuneration to the advantage of the players’, which includes your child, development and their utilization of leisure time.
    • When a player is registered with TuksYouthRugby, he or she is the responsibility of the coach(es) and team manager on the playing field during practice sessions and matches. It is the coach’s discretion in which position, in which team and when your child will play. No interference by a parent will be allowed and tolerated. Should a complaint exist to which a coach or team manager made him or her guilty of, channels of communication and procedures are in place that can be followed to attend to the complaint and solve the issue.
    • The following steps can be followed in order to solve a problem or unhappiness:
      • Bring the problem or unhappiness under the team manager’s attention, where after a solution between the relevant parties can be found in a peaceful manner.
      • Should the above not be successful, the complaint can be escalated to the relevant Chairman: Primary Schools or Chairman: High Schools.
      • Should the problem or unhappiness still not be solved by the relevant chairman, the complaint can be escalated further to the Vice Chairman: TuksYouthRugby and finally to the Chairman: TuksYouthRugby.
    • Parents’ positive support cannot be under-estimated. Therefore, focus your involvement in the support of your child, his or her team and the youth club. The above support includes moral support, financial support and voluntarily logistical help where and when requested.
    • It is required from parents to strictly adhere to the financial requirements of the youth club. Should a problem being experienced to adhere to the financial commitments, the parent(s) must arrange alternative payment terms with the management of the youth club well in advance.
    • Acknowledge the value and importance of a team sport such as rugby, identify and acknowledge the good qualities of the game and uphold these values in order for this wonderful game to be conserved and developed for our children and their children.
    • Ensure and remember that you and your child or children’s positive contribution to the game is very important, not just for TuksYouthRugby, but for all structures higher up the hierarchy of South African and World Rugby.
