ADULT & YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID
WWCCA Mental Health First Aid/QPR Suicide Prevention Training Interest Form
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training
Teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in young people. Topics covered in this training include, but are not limited to mood disorders, anxiety disorder, PTSD, depression, psychosis, eating disorders, suicide, and substance use disorders. The training highlights the possibility of recovery despite the challenges. The difficulties of mental health challenges often surface unexpectedly, and better equipping community members to recognize signs, symptoms, and crisis situations can make all the difference.
The training is an estimated 8.5 hour time commitment, consisting of two parts:
Self-Paced Segment: For fully virtual or blended trainings, this segment is completed via an online learning portal managed by the National Council of Behavioral Health. All registered participants are given access to the portal in the weeks leading up to the instructor-led segment, and are responsible for completing the section independently prior to the deadline. Instructor-Led Segment/s: This section is facilitated via Zoom, or in-person, by NAMI Urban LA's certified instructors, who guide participants through material and activities designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skillset, and confidence to be able to effectively recognize and respond to crisis and non-crisis situations related to mental health challenges.
