Hosting Visiting Students from Chengdu China

Welcome to the application to host a visiting student from Chengdu, China.

The OCDSB has partnered with the Chengdu Education Bureau for the past 8 years in a variety of initiatives including teacher training, student exchanges and virtual partnerships.

This is the 5th time that we are running this exchange after successful exchanges in April 2024, May and October 2025, and May 2026. Photos from those times are linked here and here to give you an idea of what the exchanges looked like.

2 weeks October 25 - November 7, 2026

My family and I are aware that :

the visiting students are in grade 5 and 6 but that my child / children may be in other grades (ideally close to grade 5 and 6)
the student may share a room with my child (same gender) but requires their own bed;
that a great personal effort is required in looking after our exchange student(s);
all visiting students speak some English;
the visiting student will attend school with our child;
we will share Canadian culture with the visiting student who is here to improve their English;
my family will receive a stipend of $700 / student to help cover expenses.

Parents: Hosting an international student in your home is a big commitment and could (possibly) change the dynamic in your household. Please describe how you would welcome a student into your home and ensure they are made to feel safe, cared for and heard should any issues arise?

I authorize both the OCDSB and OCENET to share personal, school and homestay information electronically with designated officials from Chengdu Education Bureau

I give permission to OCDSB, OCENET and our partners in Chengdu to use photos / videos of my child in any promotional and / or professional material.

I understand that we will bear all costs associated with lodging and transportation while the Chengdu student is living with us. A stipend of $700 / student will be provided to each host family.
