PARTICIPANT INFORMATION
The purpose of this study is to investigate the management of terrapins in captivity and understand any issues that may be encountered from the owners perspective.
We are keen to hear from terrapin owners residing in the UK who have had their companions develop health related issues regardless of if the disease status was confirmed by a vet. If you are an avid terrapin owner, you will be asked to focus this survey on the animal of choice that has the established history of ill health.
This survey asks questions about your regional location, your terrapin, their enclosure conditions and your opinions on their wellbeing, management and external factors that may contribute to their care. This will take no more than 10 minutes to complete. If you find the questions or subject matter too distressing, you may exit the questionnaire at any time.
This is an anonymous study and all data collected will be non-identifiable. You will not be required to provide your name, or any personal data such as contact details, or any information that could lead to someone recognising who you are from your answers. After completing the questionnaire you will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win [one of eight amazon gift vouchers worth £25 each]. If you wish to enter the prize draw you will need to provide an email address so that we can contact you if you win. If you choose to do so, only Chiara Matrone as the researcher and Troy Gibson as the supervisor will have access to subject-identifiable data or a key allowing pseudonymised data to be linked back to an individual or other data. These data will be stored securely in an encrypted drive and will be destroyed at the end of the project in August 2024. Non-subject-identifiable (i.e. anonymous) data that cannot be traced to any individual may be made freely available for future research and learning via the RVC Research data storage facility, and in association with subsequent publications.
Ethical approval has been granted by the RVC Social Science Research Ethical Review Board.
