USGBC-LA’s Annual Civic Building Awards (CBAs) recognize publicly owned buildings and their project team’s commitment and leadership in creating a more sustainable built environment for all! The Awards are merit-based, selecting projects that demonstrate innovation, sustainable strategies, and exemplary performance in the field of sustainability, occupant health, and community engagement.
The Civic Building Awards are open to completed projects that showcase innovation in sustainability (certification under any sustainability rating system is preferred, but not required).
FINAL DEADLINE: 12 a.m. on March 15th, 2024.
Winning Projects
All winners will receive an award and be recognized at USGBC-LA's 23rd Annual California Green Building Conference & Expo on May 2, 2023. All applicants will receive a 10% discount when buying tickets to the California Green Building Conference and are invited to our exclusive VIP Happy Hour. Additionally, awarded projects will receive the following benefits:
1. Inclusion in USGBC-LA’s digital tour of awardees on EcoMapLA.
2. Winners will be announced through USGBC-LA's social media, newsletters, email blasts, and a press release.
3. Civic Building of the Year winners will be offered the opportunity to showcase their projects through a co-hosted sustainability tour (virtual or in-person) in late 2024 or early 2025.
4. Consideration for speaking opportunities in future thought leadership panel discussions or other 2024 or 2025 events as relevant.
Eligibility
Location: Projects shall be located in California.
Typology: Publicly owned buildings of all project types, commercial, residential, urban design, or institutional are welcome.
Built Projects: Sustainable design certification (LEED, Fitwel, WELL, Living Building Challenge, Passive House, Envision, GBI, etc.) between April 2023 - March 2024 preferred, but NOT required.
* Important Recommendation: All projects have the option to complete and submit an AIA Common Application excel spreadsheet providing basic sustainable data, which has been chosen for its ease of use and consistent metrics across project submissions.
