  • Updating the Synopsis

    Ex 1. We filed claim on 5-1-22 for service connection for: back condition, sleep apnea, MH to include PTSD. We received decision dated 6-1-22 and VA granted back condition 20%, denied sleep apnea and MH claims. Updated Synopsis tab should say:

    [6-1-22 RD – granted: s/c back 20%; denied s/c: SA and MH] – reviewing for appeal


    Ex. 2. We filed claim on 5-1-22 for seeking service connection for bilateral knees, MH to include PTSD, and for sleep apnea. We receive a decision dated 6-1-22 and VA granted R knee 10%, denied s/c L knee, and deferred decision as to s/c for MH to include PTSD. Updated Synopsis tab should say:

    [6-1-22 RD –granted: s/c R knee 10%; denied: s/c L knee; deferred: MH] – waiting for decision on deferred issue(s) then revieing for appeal

     

    Make sure to leave other important info in the synopsis tab that is not addressed in this decision but is still needed in the case. For example, still need to review prior decision for appeal, still waiting on statements for another claim to file, etc.

  • Updating the Deadline Warnings

    *If you updated the Case Dates section with the RD date for this decision, the checklist should have 2 new items for deadline warning and reminder to add the appeal checklist. If not, go back and enter that date in the case tab before proceeding to the checklist.

    Ex. This 06/01/2022 Decision (RD) was entered into the “2nd RD” Case Date on the Case Tab. The checklist should now have 2 items that look like this:

    • SECOND - Add Appeal Checklist
    • 2RD - 2 Weeks to Appeal

    Update the task name of those two checklist items to reflect the new decision to look like this: 

    • SECOND - [06/01/2022 RD - denied for back, knees, granted MH 30%] - Add Appeal Checklist
    • 2RD - [06/01/2022 RD] Warning - 2 Weeks to Appeal

     

  • If the decision resulted in an award of retroactive benefits, make sure you put the retro award from the Award Printout in VBMS in the Total Retro field. Also, update the wins spreadsheet so we can keep track of our wins!:
