  • What is the role of a counselor at EASD?

    • EASD counselors have a love for history, helping kids, and having a fun and safe summer experience
    • Counselors are volunteers who guide children through activities, historical information, and learning in a hands-on way

    What is the time commitment?

    • New counselors not participating in Teen Leadership Experience must attend training July 31 from 2pm - 5pm
    • All Counselors must attend training August 1 from 9:30am - 4:00pm and August 3 from 9:30am - 4:00pm
    • Counselors must be available for all days of the EASD program, August 4-7 from 8:30am - 4pm

    What are the requirements to be a first-year counselor?

    • Must be 14 years old by July 30
    • Must have completed grade 8 or equivalent
    • Must complete an application and submit a reference
    • Must attend an interview
    • Teens attending Teen Leadership Experience receive priority consideration
    • Submit this application by 5/15 (priority deadline, applications accepted through 7/10 if spaces remain available)

    What is the compensation for this role?

    • 40 community service hours toward your school/NHS/service organization requirments
    • $200 stipend (after successful completion of the program)

  • I understand that if selected to be a counselor, this is a volunteer role. In order to receive credit as a volunteer (if needed for school, honor society, etc.) and a stipend I must fully participate in the EASD training and EASD program.

  • Training for Early American Summer Days is July 31 from 2-5pm (not required for TLE participants), August 1 from 9:30 to 4:00 and August 3 from 9:30PM to 4:00PM. The Early American Summer Days program is August 4-7 from 8:30AM-4PM. The final day of the program may go until 5pm. I will be able to get transportation to and from the SVM grounds and in a timely fashion.

  • I understand that as a counselor, I must wear a historic costume or other assigned uniform to distinguish me as a leader. I understand I must wear what is given to me as assigned.

    I, as the parent or guardian of this person, acknowledge that I have reviewed this application with my child. I acknowledge that if my child does not have the ability to drive themself, I will provide reliable transportation for my child, and treat this opportunity as a step into the professional world.
