General Information
20 Pearls Foundation, Inc. is making available to high school female students in Newport News Public Schools an opportunity to apply for a scholarship in the amount of $3,000.
In addition, The Earlene Arnold Memorial Scholarship is a two-part scholarship, with $2,500 awarded the first year and $500 awarded the second year.
The criteria for both scholarships are listed below. A total of twelve scholarships will be awarded.
GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
- Must be a female high school senior.
- Have a grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
- Plan to attend an institution of higher learning (college, technical school, community college, etc.)
EARLENE ARNOLD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
- Must be a female high school senior.
- Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
- Plan to major in a STEM related field of study.
- Plan to attend an institution of higher learning.
Earlene Arnold Scholarship Information– students attending Hampton University, Howard University, or another HBCU preferred but not required.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
- Complete the application form.
- Submit an official high school transcript.
- Submit two letters of recommendation, with one letter from a person at your high school.
- Submit photo identification.
- Write a minimum 200-word essay on “How My Chosen Career Will Positively Impact My Community.”
*Only completed applications postmarked by the deadline will be considered.
*Completed packets must be postmarked by March 15, 2024.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
- Scholarship recipients will be notified by mail and telephone within two weeks of the deadline.
- Additional information about the Scholarship Presentation will be forthcoming to the scholarship recipients.
- Scholarship recipients must provide verification of enrollment and class attendance in a college, university, technical school
or specialized school. BEFORE scholarship money is awarded. Scholarship money is awarded to the college and not to the
student. Money will be awarded in late September or October of 2024 after the verification form is received.
**Family members of 20 Pearls Foundation, Inc. are ineligible to apply. **
