  • Braille Institute and Wayfinder Family Services, in collaboration with CTEBVI (California Transcribers and Educators for the Blind and Visually Impaired, are sponsoring the Youth Institute to be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM during the CTEBVI Annual Conference at the LAX Airport Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles at no cost.

    We’re excited to invite you to this year’s Youth Institute, which promises to provide students with a variety of strategies for success! This day-long event will provide students with the opportunity to explore key topics and meet mentors who are blind or have low vision themselves. 

    This year’s Youth Institute is open for all blind or low vision students in the K-12 school system as well as our transition age college students that are under the age of 22. To register for the Youth Institute please complete the form below the agenda.

  • Workshops -15-20 minute discussion, 35-40 minute activity for each workshop

    9:00 – 10:00 AM: Student Check-in/Registration and Welcome

    10:00 – 11:00: Better Me, Better We: Discuss - How to work together in groups/teams to get the best results. Talk about teamwork, working with others and how to play with others, problem solving, collaborating, patience, turn taking, compromise and negotiation  

    11:00 – 11:15: Break and Snacks

    11:15 – 12:15 PM: Get Ready with Me: Discuss how to get ready for traveling, camp, and sleepovers. Talk about homesickness, learning to be away and independent, how to prep for trips, what services are needed and how to ask for them (self-advocacy)  

    12:15 Lunch (Provided)

    1:20 – 2:20: Joint session with parents from the Parent Institute on Assistive Technology

    2:20 – 3:00: Exhibit Hall: Students will travel in small groups exploring the CTEBVI Exhibit Hall.

    3:00: Conclusion of Institute
