Official League Rules:
THE TEAM
Teams will be made up of 6 - 8 players.
Six(6) players will compete on a side. *Optional* others (up to 2 per team) will be available as substitutes. Substitutes may only enter a match at the start of a match. No substitutes during a match (both games or all games in an elimination match) or in the case of injury.
THE EQUIPMENT
The official ball used in the Full Send Dodgeball events will be an 8.25" rubber-coated foam ‘elephant skin’ ball for U18, U15 & U13 divisions and the 6.75” rubber-coated foam ‘elephant skin’ ball for the U11 division.
THE GAME
The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them "OUT". This may be done by:
1. Hitting an opposing player with a LIVE thrown ball below the shoulders. (Note : All throws must be initiated behind the center line) *stepping on or over the center line will result in the offending player being eliminated*
2. Catching a LIVE ball thrown by your opponent before it touches the ground. Definition: LIVE:
A ball that has been thrown and has not touched anything, including the floor/ground, another
ball, another player, official or other item outside of the playing field (wall, ceiling, etc) Note: A
player can be eliminated if he / she is hit with the ball before it bounces. This rule only applies to getting hit below the shoulders in order to make the game safer. Likewise, a player is out of the game if an opponent catches the ball that is thrown at him/her. The ball that is caught must not have bounced off another player or any object within the field of play, including a wall or ceiling. If a player catches a ball, a player who has been hit, out of the game, is allowed to re-enter. **If player ‘A’ is holding a ball to protect against an opponent’s throw and the ball that he/she is holding is knocked free after deflecting an opponent’s throw, Player ‘A’ shall be deemed HIT similar to a dropped catch attempt! **
Situation #1 – If Player A is hit by a throw and the ball is caught by a teammate. Ruling #1 –
Player A is OUT, Thrower is not affected.
Situation #2 – Player A is hit but the ball is caught by the same player (without having touched a wall, player or other ball). Ruling #2 – Player A is saved. Thrower is out
HEAD SHOTS
Hitting an opposing player in the Head with a LIVE thrown ball will result in the elimination of the throwing player without re-entry in that game. Note: *A HEAD SHOT will be deemed if the
individual was in an athletic stance when struck, not while bending, sliding, etc.).
BOUNDARIES
During play, all players must remain within the assigned boundary lines. No throws may be initiated outside of the boundaries and no player should be targeted when outside of the boundary lines retrieving a ball.
THE OPENING RUSH
Game begins by placing the dodge balls along the center line – two (2) on one side of the center hash and two(2) on the other. Players then take a position at their end line. Following a signal by the official/ convener, teams may approach the centerline to retrieve the balls. This signal officially starts the contest. Teams may only retrieve the two (2) balls to their right of the center hash. **Note: players may only retrieve a ball that is on their side of the center line – no reaching across**
TIMING AND WINNING A GAME, MATCH during POOL PLAY
Match - each match will consist of a two (2) game set.
Game - The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be declared the winner of a single game. (Scoring a 6-0 victory)
Timing - A 90 second time limit has been established for each contest. If neither team has been eliminated at the end of the 90 seconds, the team with the greater number of players remaining will be declared the winner. (E.g. One side has five remaining players versus the opposing side having 2 remaining players at the completion of the 90 seconds. Scored 5-2) If tied ... see overtime format below. ***No Overtime for Pool Play matches***. Overtime is only used during Elimination Rounds & Finals
Overtime will consist of 6 players (4 balls) from each team competing in a sudden victory contest. Upon official restart, the first team to eliminate a single player from the opposing team will be declared the winner.
TOURNAMENT SCORING
Win in Regulation = 2pts and +6 (regardless of number of players remaining on the floor) for the winning team and No points and a -6 for the losing team.
Elasped Time Game = Game will be recorded as a win for the team with the greater number of players left on the floor after 90 seconds. The specific score for that game will be recorded as a “W” plus or minus the differential in players at the end of the 90 second mark - E.g. if team A has 2 players left and team B has 4 players left after time expires, the score is to be recorded as Team B winning with a + 2 differential ( ie. “W +2”). Team A’s game score would be “ L-2”. Pool
