JAVA Memorial Scholarships 2026
The Japanese American Veterans Association will award several JAVA Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $2000 in honor and memory of JAVA veterans, family, and friends. Applicants should graduate from high school in 2026, and enroll in an undergraduate program in the summer or fall of 2026.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following criteria. Please place an "x" beside the criteria you meet:
I am or will be a 2026 high school graduate who will be pursuing an associate, undergraduate degree or professional certificate in the summer or fall of 2026.
AND ...
I am: (check all that apply)
A direct, lineal descendant* of a Nisei military service member of World War II who served in the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the Military Intelligence Service, the 1399th Engineer Construction Battalion, or other U.S. military unit to include the Women's Army Corps or Army Nurses Corps. OR
A collateral descendant * of a Nisei military service member of World War II in the units described previously. A collateral descendant is an applicant whose direct ancestor was a brother, sister, uncle, aunt, nephew, or niece of a World War II Nisei military service member. OR
A current member of JAVA (https://java-us.org/) whose membership began prior to April 1, 2024. OR
A child of a current JAVA member. My parent or guardian is a JAVA member whose membership began prior to April 1, 2024.
For direct, lineal descendants or collateral descendants, please indicate the name of the WW II Nisei service member to whom the applicant is related; include the name of the military unit and years of service, and state the WW II military service member's relationship to the applicant.

Attach or send your essay of no more than 500 words in 12-point font : Keeping in mind that we are honoring the legacy of our Nisei veterans and leaders, select one of these two topics: "What will I do to make my community a better place?" - or - "Describe a challenge that you have faced and how you responded to that challenge".
Attach or send an official copy of your most recent transcript(s) (2024-2026 school years).

Attach or send a list of your volunteer/community service activities, extracurricular activities, work experiences, and/or leadership positions held within the last two years (2024-2026).

I am aware that my completed application, with supporting documentation, must be electronically submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. on April 30, 2026, in order for it to be considered for the 2026 JAVA Memorial Scholarship Program. Applications not received by that date, or that fail to meet the submission requirements, will NOT be considered.
