2024 JAVA Founder's Scholarship -
The Japanese American Veterans Association Founder's Scholarship is awarded in memory of the founder of JAVA, Colonel Sunao Phil Ishio (USA, retired), his wife Constance, and their son, Douglas Ishio. Colonel Ishio served as JAVA's first president. This scholarship award of $3000 will be awarded to a student who has completed two or more years of college/university.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following criteria. Please place an "x" beside the criteria you meet:

I have completed at least two years in an undergraduate program AND
I will be continuing my studies in an undergraduate program at a 4-year college or university in the fall of 2024. OR
I am/will be enrolled in a graduate program of study in the fall of 2024.
Eligibility: Applicants also must meet at least one of the following criteria. Please place an "x" beside the criteria you meet:
I am a direct, lineal descendant* of a Nisei military service member of World War II who served in the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the Military Intelligence Service, the 1399th Engineer Construction Battalion, or other U.S. military unit to include the Women's Army Corps or Army Nurses Corps. OR
I am a collateral descendant * of a Nisei military service member of World War II in the units described previously. A collateral descendant is defined as an applicant whose direct ancestor was a brother, sister, uncle, aunt, nephew, or niece of a World War II Nisei military service member OR
I am a current member of JAVA (https://java-us.org/) whose membership began prior to April 1, 2022. OR
I am a child of a current JAVA member. My parent or guardian is a JAVA member whose membership began prior to April 1, 2022.
For direct, lineal descendants or collateral descendants, please indicate the name of the WW II Nisei service member to whom the applicant is related; include the name of the military unit and years of service, and state the WW II military service member's relationship to the applicant. Applications not received by that date, or that are incomplete or fail to meet the submission requirements, will NOT be considered.
