• Beach Access Equipment Hire Form

  • The Beach Access project is run by the North Beach Residents Association (NBRA), a voluntary organisation, with support in summer months from North Beach Surf Life Saving Club.

    The project includes options for users to hire for free:

    • THREE beach wheelchairs (one child sized and two adult sized)
    • Beach wheels (swap for standard wheels on manual wheelchairs)

    A beach accessibility mat and hoist are also available for use.  All the equipment is stored in a container in the carpark of the North Beach Surf Club, Marine Parade, Christchurch.

    Other facilities at North Beach: there are two mobility carparks, two mobility public toilets, a public changing room and a cold shower on the beachside of the Surf Club.  

    Lifeguard patrols are provided from mid-November through to mid-March (Saturdays from 1pm – 5pm and Sundays 10am – 5pm) and Monday to Friday in the summer school holidays.  The beach access mat will be put out for public use during these hours.

    Terms of Hire

    • We recommend that you bring a support person with you when you use the beach wheelchair. There is a hoist to assist with transferring in and out of the wheelchair if needed (please bring your own sling).
    • Once you have completed the below booking information you will be given a lockbox code to access the container within 48 hours of booking time.
    • If the user is injured whilst using the equipment please report this to north.beach.accessibily@gmail.com 
    • The user can book a chair/s and transport them to another location for use.
    • The user is required to wash down the chair after use and secure the chair in the storage container and report any faults or issues (email: north.beach.accessibility@gmail.com )

    Disclaimer

    • The equipment is to enable access onto the beach and to the shoreline/shallows, not used as a water device.
    • Before use the hirer will check the equipment is suitable for use at the beginning of the booking and in good working order.
    • Please do not share the access code or access the container outside your agreed booking time.
