At the time of application, successful candidates:
- hold an active, recognized peer specialist/peer support credential from their state or governing jurisdiction OR have completed 40 hours of competency-specific training,
- have 2,000 hours of work or volunteer experience providing peer support/peer specialist services within the 5 years prior to application,
- can provide three letters of recommendation for certification, and
- pass the NCPS multiple choice exam of core competency.
This application captures early information used to create a full application. You will submit peer certification or training documentation. Your current or former employers will submit documentation verifying your related work experience, and three other individuals will submit letters of recommendation in support of your application for NCPS.
After these requirements are approved by the Board, you may register for the NCPS exam. The NCPS credential is awarded after passing the exam.
