  • Studio Artist vs. Guest Artist

  • "Studio Artists" open their studios or workshops to the public for the weekend, showing their process and materials. They must be present the entire weekend, have a safe, accessible route from guest vehicles to the studio, and have adequate visitor parking. Studios must have space to host at least one guest artist either inside or outside. Studios must be located in Damascus (one founding studio is just over the border and is grandfathered in).

"Guest Artists" set up at one of the studios as a guest. They will communicate with their hosting studio about space and generally will have either a 10'x10' booth space outside, or a room or area inside the studio or workshop. Guest artists must be at the studio the entire time and are responsible for their own set up and take down as well as sales.

  • Studio Artists must be able to show their studio, including their process and materials, be present at their studio the entire weekend. Studios must have a safe route from guest vehicles to the studio, and have adequate parking for visitors. If your studio is not wheelchair accessible, having a small display with some of your work for sale and a description of your process where people can see them on the ground level is ideal

Each studio must be able to host at least one guest artist at their site, either inside or outside. Space for a guest artist varies from studio to studio. Outside space generally should be level and accommodate a 10' X 10' canopy. Indoor space might be an 8' wall in a shop or a guest room in a studio. Guest artists will provide their own canopy and display and will be present during all show hours.

Applicants who are new to participating in Damascus Open Studios will be contacted by one of the DOS board members to set up a time to visit their studio prior to the jury meeting. They will chat about the show, make sure that the space is adequate for the abovementioned requirements, and answer any questions the new artist might have.

  • Guest Artists are responsible for providing their own canopy (if outside) and display materials. Guests will have a chance to talk about available space with the hosting studio before the registration fee is due.
