  • About the Bluejacket Memorial Scholarship

  • The Bluejacket Scholarship was established by Donald and Estelle Bluejacket under the professional guidance of local attorney A.G. Murray and is administered by the Claremore Public Schools Foundation. It was the Bluejacket’s wish to give back to Claremore students in a meaningful and lasting way.

The Bluejackets were wonderful people. Mr. Bluejacket retired from the Army as a Lt. Col. after nearly 24 years. His military service included duty in Europe during World War II and in Korea. Mrs. Bluejacket moved to California during World War II to help build airplanes for the war effort. After their retirement, the Bluejackets moved back to Claremore, the community they loved, to live out their remaining years. Having no children of their own, they arranged to leave a lasting gift to Claremore students they would never know. After Mr. Bluejacket’s death in 1991, followed by Mrs. Bluejacket’s death in 2005, their estate was given to the Claremore Public Schools Foundation to be invested for future generations of Claremore students. In 2007, Sam and Hazel Lessley added to the Bluejacket Scholarship endowment with a substantial contribution. A large shadow box featuring pictures and mementos from Donald and Estelle Bluejacket is on display at the Claremore High School library.

The Bluejackets directed the Claremore Public Schools Foundation that scholarships be awarded to students “with proven records of academic achievement.” In an effort to honor their wishes and legacy, academic achievement is the primary consideration for this scholarship. Applicants do not have to be “straight A” students but should demonstrate a rigorous course of study that has adequately prepared them for a successful college experience. Additionally, their grades should reflect that the student has demonstrated genuine effort in their high school academics.

  • About the Doug Mosier Memorial Scholarship

  • Doug was born in Manhattan Kansas on August 5, 1959, but called Claremore home for most of his life. He graduated from Claremore High School in the Class of 1978 and was named Mr. Spirit for his passionate support of Claremore Zebra Athletics. He continued his education at Claremore Junior College, now Rogers State University, receiving two Associate of Arts Degrees in Business Administration and Horse and Ranch Management.

Doug lived his life concentrating on four very important things: His family, friends, the Claremore Zebras, and the Rogers State Hillcats.

Doug’s greatest gift was his innate ability to make and keep lifelong friends.  Every new person he met was a friend he just didn’t know yet.  People were the most important thing in his life, and he went about collecting a large and diverse group of friends of all ages.  Friendship was easy for him, and he was very good at it.

Through this memorial scholarship, Doug will continue to befriend and bless future generations of Zebras.

The Doug Mosier Memorial Scholarship will award $2000 to one student attending Rogers State University who played at least one sport at Claremore High School, with a preference for those who played Doug’s favorite sports, baseball and softball, and maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher. Priority for the scholarship is given to applicants with financial need.
