In celebration of our 40th Anniversary, the Callingwood Farmers’ Market is thrilled to introduce a new program that both honours the past and contributes to building a promising future where Alberta business and locally made products continue to thrive.
The Young Entrepreneurs' Program is designed for aspiring business owners under the age of 18 who are interested in bringing their handmade product(s) to the Callingwood Farmers’ Market. The purpose of this program is to encourage ingenuity and entrepreneurship among young people and offer them a place from which to start growing their Alberta-based business.
Participants must:
- Be under the age of 18 and reside in Alberta
- Personally produce the product(s) they wish to sell
- Purchase liability insurance which costs approx. $15/day (see below)
- Follow Alberta Health guidelines around food safety, labelling, packaging, etc. (applicable to food vendors only)
Participants will receive:
- An 8 x 5’ space in a covered, youth-centred area (tents are not required, but vendors must still dress for the weather)
- The opportunity to get their product in front of approximately 3500 customers per market
- Experience talking with customers about their business
- Exposure through the market’s social media pages (see below)
- Mentorship from a veteran market vendor (see below)
- The chance to generate sales, earn money and grow their business
Each young vendors will be paired with a veteran vendor and given the opportunity to speak one-on-one. The market will run a “partnership profile” on social media that mentions both the young vendor and the veteran vendor.
Program costs:
In the spirit of encouraging young people to get involved, we are not charging a fee to take part in this program (the regular fee for vendors is $50/market).
Participants are required to have their own liability insurance which is available at an approximate rate of $15 per market through Duuo Insurance. The Market Manager must receive a copy of the insurance upon acceptance.
Selling at the market:
- Bring a table (maximum 8’) and chair (the market may have extras available, upon request)
- Have a POS system and/or bring a cash float to make change for customers
- Plan how to display products in a visually appealing way
- Think about signage and marketing material, if needed
- Choose dates that work for your schedule and show up (space is limited, so vendors who don't show up take space away from other businesses)
- Make time to be at the market for the entire duration from 10am-3pm (vendors cannot leave early)
- Read the market rules which will be emailed the Friday before every market
