We appreciate your interest in volunteering your time, energy and talents to the Chatham-Kent Sexual Assault Crisis Centre (CKSACC). Sexual violence is a community and societal problem, and volunteers are a vital part of the solution!
The CKSACC is a non-profit charitable organization. We provide many services within the community of Chatham-Kent. All our services are FREE and confidential. These services include a 24 Hour Crisis/support line, short- & long-term support counselling for women who are survivors of sexual violence, accompaniments, advocacy, public education workshops and information & referrals.
CKSACC MISSION STATEMENT
Operating from a Systemic Approach and maintaining a Feminist Perspective, the Chatham-Kent Sexual Assault Crisis Centre provides information, support and advocacy to survivors of sexual violence; works towards the eradication of sexual violence; and responds to needs identified by survivors.
VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are invaluable to the CKSACC, and we are incredibly grateful for all the volunteers we have had in the past, as well as those who continue to work with our Centre today. We value the contributions of our volunteers a great deal and are thankful for all the energy and compassion they bring to our Centre. CKSACC is always looking for volunteers who are passionate about upholding a culture of consent and are excited to contribute to the work we do.
POSITION DETAILS
We are looking for volunteers to provide support via our 24/7 crisis line. Volunteers may also be asked to assist with public education events and community events (e.g., International Women's Day, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, etc.)
What is the support line and what do typical calls look like?
- Offers 24/7 support to survivors and supporters of survivors.
- Survivors often want to share their story or how they’re feeling. We primarily offer validation, empathy, and a listening ear.
- Providing resources and referrals from within the CKSACC and in the community.
TIME COMMITMENT
CKSACC follows an equitable approach as an organization; therefore, flexibility is offered if someone cannot work certain shifts or has other commitments.
- Shifts are 16 or 24 hours (5pm to 9am or 9am to 9am) depending on availability.
- Typically, you will be scheduled for 3 to 4 shifts per month depending on availability.
- During your shift, you are considered to be "on-call" and will be expected to have access to a phone and receive phone calls from survivors via our crisis line. There will always be another volunteer or staff member on "back-up on-call" who may take the call if you are unable to; however, you are expected to be the first responder when on-call.
- A phone will be provided to you for volunteer and on-call purposes.
- Prefer to know your availability for the upcoming month prior to the 20th of the previous month.
