FALL 2026 application period is closed. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: To qualify, your cumulative GPA must be a minimum of 3.3, and you must have completed two semesters of college. You MUST be able to physically come in to BPD HQ 6-8 weeks in advance of starting in order to be finger-printed and begin the background process, and you must be able to serve at our physical location during regular working hours (between 7 am and 5 pm), unless it is for the Crime Scene FARO lab, which takes place after 3PM. Internship Completion Requirements: You must have completed a minimum of 90 hours over the semester in order to successfully complete the internship. Internships are unpaid and competitive. Being an intern allows you to develop relationships while exploring the areas of your interest and may give you a competitive advantage in your future employment search. Though an internship is never a guarantee of employment, we are proud to say that some of our most outstanding interns are now our employees. Applications are due July 20th for Fall, September 30th of the prior year for Spring, and February 1st for Summer. Internships within the Agency but outside of the Forensic Laboratory will include working with personnel in the Police Commissioner's Office, Homicide, Special Events and Outreach, Data Driven Strategies, Arson Investigation, and Youth & Community Partnerships.
BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIRED

All interns will be required to process a background check process prior to a final acceptance. Applicants are required to come to our physical location during regular working hours 4 - 7 weeks prior to the beginning of the semester to begin the background process. Please do NOT APPLY if you are unable to satisfy that requirement as you will be disqualified. Please note: the entire background process can take up to 8 weeks before interns have badges and are allowed to report.
