  • Class Proposal Form to Teach at Sonoma Community Center

    Sonoma Community Center’s arts & cultural education program provides a broad range of classes and workshops to the people of Sonoma Valley and beyond. Our curriculum includes courses that focus on foundational to advanced skills in 2D fine arts, ceramics, music, fiber arts, culinary arts, and cultural traditions from around the world. You are invited to propose a class; proposing a class does not guarantee that your class will run. If you know of other arts & cultural instructors, feel free to share this form with them.
  • Culinary Guidelines


    1. **Commit to Quality Food**: Always prioritize the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients. Your dishes should reflect a standard of excellence, showcasing the best flavors and textures possible. Pay attention to details like presentation and taste, ensuring every meal is a culinary delight.


    2. **Be Kind to Our Paying Customers**: Treat every customer with kindness and respect. A warm greeting, attentive service, and a genuine smile go a long way in making patrons feel valued and appreciated. Address their needs promptly and courteously, creating a welcoming and hospitable environment.


    3. **Teach New Techniques**: Continuously innovate and share new culinary techniques with your team and students. Whether it's a novel cooking method, a unique ingredient, or a creative presentation, imparting new knowledge keeps the culinary experience fresh and exciting. Encourage questions and foster a learning atmosphere.


    4. **Ensure People are Having a Good Day in Your Class**: Make your cooking classes enjoyable and engaging. Start with a friendly introduction, maintain a positive and encouraging tone, and interact with participants throughout the session. Ensure the class is well-paced, informative, and fun, so everyone leaves with a smile and new skills.


    By adhering to these guidelines, you'll create a culinary experience that delights customers, fosters learning, and ensures everyone has a positive and memorable time.

  • Guidelines for Teaching Contractors

  • Sonoma Community Center’s arts education program provides a broad range of classes and workshops to the people of Sonoma Valley and beyond. Our curriculum includes courses that focus on foundational skills in fine art, ceramics, fiber arts, culinary arts and cultural traditions from around the world.

    Responsibilities
    • Teach dynamic, high quality classes and workshops for a diverse student community
    • Work with the program manager to advance, develop and update curriculum
    • Share responsibilities for class promotion & marketing, in coordination with SCC staff
    • Work collaboratively with SCC instructors, administrators and partners

    Qualifications
    • A BFA/BA is preferred, but candidates with significant professional experience are welcome to apply and will be considered.
    • A minimum of three years experience producing work in their area of creative expertise
    • Two years of teaching experience or equivalent
    • The ability to effectively manage a collaborative classroom in which all students, including special needs and at-risk students, have membership

    Application Process
    The Center schedules classes on a trimester basis:

    • Trimester 1: January, February, March, April
    • Trimester 2: May, June, July, August
    • Trimester 3: September, October, November, December

    Class for a trimester are typically posted a month before to allow time for registration. E.g. Trimester 3 classes are posted beginning of August.

    • To apply, please submit a class proposal including a resume and examples of work.
    • Class proposals are evaluated by committee; candidates will be interviewed upon invitation.

    Policies
    • Teaching agreements cover specific timeframes. Class renewals are offered by SCC based on program needs and confirmed by written agreement. Submitting a proposal is not a guarantee of teaching.
    • Classroom assignments are made by SCC and subject to change.
