Terms of Agreement
- I understand that unless and until I adopt the cat(s) in my care, the cat(s) are not mine, and belong to the rescuer with whom I am signing this agreement. I will promptly return the cat(s) if asked to do so by the rescuer.
- Unless otherwise specified, I will pick up day to day costs for the cat (food, litter, etc). Veterinary costs will be paid for by the rescuer. (That said, I typically have to crowdfund all my veterinary costs. Only a tiny portion are offset by adoption fees. I welcome any contributions toward care of your foster cat[s] as well as help with fundraising!)
- I will not administer meds or over the counter treatments or implement behavior protocols or do anything with the cat other than basic, day to day care without consulting with the rescuer.
- I will promptly contact the rescuer with any questions pertaining to behavior, possible medical issues, etc.
- In the event of an emergency, I will make every effort to reach the rescuer, but if I am unable to do so, I will use my best judgment and take care of the cat as if s/he were my own. If necessary, I will get the cat to an appropriate medical facility. The cat’s primary vet, listed on the first page, is the first choice in most case. A list of 24-hour emergency vets is attached. (Please be aware that these emergency vets are typically are more expensive than local vets and should only be used if the primary care vet is not open, or if the local vet tells you to go to the emergency vet, or if the situation is so emergent that you feel it warrants a trip to the emergency vet.) I will continue to try to reach the rescuer and will keep her informed as the situation unfolds.
- I will update the rescuer regularly, ideally every day, especially during the first week or two, and will promptly respond to messages, calls, etc, pertaining to the cat. I will provide photos or videos as needed. (I can usually tell much more from a photo or video than I can from a description, and in fact I can often see things in a photo or video that other people might not even notice, pertaining to body posture, ear position, etc.)
- I will not hire or otherwise engage anyone else to care for the cat without explicit prior approval from the rescuer. If I should need to travel while I am fostering the cat, I will inform the rescuer in advance so that we can discuss care arrangements for the cat.
- As the foster, I have “first dibs” for adopting this cat, although application does not guarantee acceptance, if a more suitable home can be found. I/we will make a decision about whether to adopt this cat within 1 month unless otherwise agreed upon with the rescuer.
- If I do not adopt this cat, I will cooperate fully with rehoming the cat, whether to another foster home or to an adoptive home.
The answers to the above questions are true to the best of my knowledge. By signing this form, I/we acknowledge that all information on this form is true and correct. Any misrepresentation may result in refusing adoption or subsequent removal of pet from your home.
