About Organization. The Center for the Visual Arts (CVA) is one of the leading cultural institutions in Central Wisconsin, uplifting local artists and the community. With three gallery spaces featuring 16 exhibits annually, a reputable school of art, and a gallery shop, your exploration of the CVA will be endless. Admission is always free.
About Galleries. The Center for the Visual Arts has three galleries: Caroline S Mark gallery is the first gallery you enter. This space is often used for large group shows, including juried exhibitions, this is also the ideal space for solo shows featuring large-scale works of art.
The Vault Gallery is the smallest of the three galleries and is set in a historic bank, featuring the original bank vault, large windows, as well as other historical features. The Vault often features solo and two-person exhibits.
The Loft Gallery hosts our community group exhibitions like membership shows or school art shows.
About Opportunities. The CVA has a limited number of slots for Solo and small group shows (2-4 shows). We do a variety of juried shows, community group shows, and invitationals throughout the year. The CVA does 16-18 exhibits a year that only has space for 2-4 shows that come from proposals. To provide more opportunities to artists who submit proposals we may curate a pairing of artists for a show. Proposals that are not accepted for solo exhibits are kept on file for exhibit opportunities, ie invitational exhibits.
Exhibit Proposal Guidelines
-
The gallery uses a track system for 2-D artwork. Artwork should be able to hang from a wire, picture rings, or other compatible hanging methods. Check with the curator if unsure.
-
If a covering is required such as glass, the CVA strongly prefers plexiglass.
-
At this time the CVA only accepts digital proposals using this form, all exhibiting artists are expected to be able to communicate and share information digitally and that starts with digital show proposals.
-
Artwork must be original and created within the last 2 years or be part of a body of work that is currently in process.
-
Works must NOT have been shown before at the CVA galleries.
-
WORK MUST BE ORIGINAL TO THE ARTIST - Original artwork would, for example, be the first version of a painting an artist creates, not any subsequent prints, reproductions, or imitations of the artwork. Artists may use reference photos they took themself, or study from multiple references to create a composition that is unique to the new work
-
LIABILITY- All work selected for the exhibit will be insured by the CVA against damage and theft while in the care of the gallery. Entrants are responsible for insuring work while in transit to and from the exhibit. All work must remain in the gallery for the entirety of the show. The CVA cannot insure any artwork for an amount in excess of 60% of its retail value. Any irregularities must be reported within 30 days of the return of artwork.
-
SALES- Artists are encouraged to place their work for sale. If a piece of artwork is sold, a sales commission of 40% of the sale price will be retained by the CVA. Sold work must remain in the gallery the entire length of the exhibit. Payment will be made to the artist after the exhibit closes.
- Submission of this application form constitutes agreement to all conditions listed in this prospectus.
-
RIGHTS RESERVED- The CVA reserves the right not to display work that fails to meet jury expectations.
