Rules and Regulations:
Items must be finished in 2023/24 – yarns and fabric can have been created prior to this (as in taken from the stash).
Descriptions must be submitted by March 27, 2024, using provided forms
Descriptions must include fibre content, whether yarn is handspun or commercial, artist(s) who created the item and their roles, when it was created, all techniques used, any commercial fabric included (such as lining, or contrasting or coordinating details), any details that add uniqueness to the item.
Credit must be given for the pattern (self-drafted, commercial pattern, website, etc.).
Entries are limited to VHWS Guild members (Regular, Associate, Life and Student).
Submissions can be made by individuals or teams
Limit of 3 submissions in different categories per Guild Member (including team efforts).
Award Categories:
Best Representation of the 90th Anniversary – This could be a 1930’s style garment, something in the Guild colours, or be made in such a way to represent 90 candles, etc. This is open to the imagination!
Best Use of Recycled Materials – This is an opportunity to unravel and recreate a sweater, remake an unsatisfactory project, etc.
Best Top (not outerwear) – Tops include something you can wear with a nice pair of pants or a skirt.
Best Dress / Complete Outfit – A lovely dress or a complete outfit (for example, top and pants)
Best Outerwear – A jacket, cloak, cape, anything you’d throw on over your lovely handmade top or dress or outfit!
Best Accessory Set – Examples of accessories include a matching hat and gloves, a scarf and mittens, a shawl and hat, etc….(minimum of 2 pieces)
Best Use of Local Fibre/Yarn – If you’ve found something local (from BC), sing its praises and wear it proudly!
Best Garment created from raw fibre (handspun, felted, etc.) – So many options as you’re starting from the beginning!
Best Knitted / Crocheted Garment – Show off your needle skills, handspun or not, nothing beats a handmade sweater or jacket (yes, commercial yarn is eligible).
Best Woven Garment – Another handmade, one-of-a-kind garment to wear with pride! Cloth can be woven using handspun or commercial yarn.
Best Team Entry – Did you help someone? Did they help you? Tell us about how you combined your talents.
Best Use of Stash Materials – Have something in your closet that you wove a few years ago? Some handspun that’s just been sitting and waiting for its turn? Well, now’s the time!
People’s Choice – On the day of the event, you’ll have a chance to vote for the garment that takes your breath away!
