The Permaculture Design Certificate Course of approximately 100 hours, follows international standards for curriculum. The Design Course is an in-depth introduction to Permaculture Design Principles, Practices and Applications. Students are awarded a Certificate of Completion.
This course includes an acknowledgment of the Indigenous Origins of regenerative design and offers an exploration into the myriad of Applications of Permaculture Design with inspiring examples of human ingenuity, sustainable land use practices and community development from around the world.
INSTRUCTORS:
The Teaching Team will be led by The Permaculture Academy’s Programs Director, Larry Santoyo and will include guest Lecturers in-person and via Zoom.
THE COURSE:
October 5th & 6th 2024
November 2nd & 3rd 2024
December 7th & 8th 2024
January 4th & 5th 2025
February 1st & 2nd 2025
March 1st & 2nd 2025
April 5th & 6th 2025
Classes will meet from 9 to 5 on the above dates.
Be prepared for extensive note-taking in a classroom setting.
Participation in class discussion is required.
Additional “hands-on” workshops will be scheduled.
Class participants will meet in Teams to prepare a Project for presentation.
The Course culminates with Final Presentations- and Talent Show Celebration
BREAKS:
We will have a 10 minute break every 75 to 90 minutes and take a 30 minute break for lunch at 12:30 or 1:00pm.
Water, Tea and Coffee will be provided.
Please bring a Bag Lunch and Snacks to share.
(sharing break-time snacks has become a class favorite “community building” activity!)
Please bring whatever plate, utensils and drinking cup you may need.
HOMEWORK REQUIREMENTS:
DESIGN TEAM PROJECT plus HANDS ON WORKSHOP
The core learning objective of this program focuses on the Applications of Permaculture Design.
The class will be divided into teams for small group work outside of class time. Teams will prepare and complete a Master Plan and Design for presentation at the final course sessions. Details of deliverables of the “team projects” will be discussed in class.
In addition to team design projects, all students are expected to attend at least one Hands-On Workshop. Extracurricular hands-on learning opportunities will be scheduled and announced throughout the course. These are provided for you to learn and gain practical understanding of a skill or technique discussed in class.
TRADE & TALENT SHOW CELEBRATION:
This long-standing tradition, initiated by Bill Mollison is a Celebration of Community. This is an opportunity for students to share a meal, drinks- and to showcase their Talents and/or their products, services and skills. Musicians, poets, dancers, skits -anything goes!!!
The Talent Show is on the last day of the course- after the Design Team Presentations. Participation in the Talent & Trade Show is required for Certification.
ATTENDANCE & MAKE-UP SESSIONS:
Full attendance is required for Certification. If you have to miss or be late for a class -please let us know and make arrangements with your team to get class notes. We do have some past course videos that may serve as make-up requirements. Our policy also allows for you to make up class in the following year’s course.

PREREQUISITES & ADDITIONAL MATERIALS:
There are no prerequisites for this course. This course is relevant to all levels of interest, skills and experience. Presentation skills, graphics, drawing and/or other design skills could be helpful- but not required. Some additional costs for presentation materials may be incurred.
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS:
Class attendance in full + Payments made in full + Extracurricular hands-on workshop + Full participation in design team project + Design team presentation + Talent show.
Graduates of the Permaculture Design Course are eligible to enroll in the Mentorship Program and/or Permaculture Apprenticeship Program -those details will be discussed in class.
NOTE: Designation as "Permaculture Designer" is typically awarded upon completion of an additional 2 year apprenticeship program.

Full refunds (minus a $325 non-refundable fee) are available at any point up until the first weekend of class (October 5th 2024).
