All Wind Members will have until May 3rd, 2024 to submit their audition. Auditions will again be submitted via video link (YouTube or Vimeo). The criteria is listed below so please pay particular attention to the instructions. All videos should be uploaded as unlisted. This will allow the staff the ability to view your audition.
MUSIC AUDITION
This year's audition will feature FOUR components:
1. Any three chromatically adjacent major scales (i.e. E-flat major, E major, and F major) in any rhythm and range you choose.
Note: You may improve your score by demonstrating greater range and faster speed, but do not compromise pitch accuracy.
2. Chromatic scale (at least 1 octave).
Note: You may improve your score by demonstrating greater range and faster speed, but do not compromise pitch accuracy.
3. WCU Fight Song
4. Star Spangled Banner
Video Requirement:
Your music must be memorized so please position your camera in such a way that will illustrate that you are not reading any music (behind you or to the side). Additionally, double check your pitches to assure that you are playing the correct notes from the printed page as this is the version we will evaluate/reference. Use allotted tempo markings and recordings to determine approprate tempos for the excerpts.
Part Assignment
If you play an instrument with a split part, please plan to play the part that you are most comfortable/familiar performing. This audition is used to adjudicate accuracy, quality of sound, tempo control, and general musicianship characteristics (phrasing, articulation, dynamics).
VISUAL AUDITION
Box Drill (left and right)
Tempo: Quarter Note = 144
You will not need your instrument for this exercise but your arms should remain in the horns up position. It is required that a metronome click accompany your video audition. Please allow it to run during the entire exercise. Visual auditions without an audible metronome will not be accepted.
Please consider the following for your visual audition:
Your video must be of you marching front view. Make sure you have good lighting with proper athletic shoes on, are able to see your entire body throughout the audition on camera, and on a field or parking lot with enough space to do a proper 8 to 5 step (e.g. NOT in a living room, other confined space, etc.). A confined space will NOT allow for the proper step size or technique dispay, and may affect your audition results.
