  • Note: The AHC only permits travel within the EU for up to 4 months or until the rabies vaccination expires.

  • Note: In the case of transport by sea, the 10-day period is extended by an additional period corresponding to the duration of the sea journey.

  • Details of Pet(s) Travelling

  • Notes:

    • Up to five pets may travel on one AHC
    • Please check all details carefully! Any errors you make will be transferred to your AHC
    • All pets named on the AHC must be brought to collect the certificate
    • Species (Scientific Name): for dogs (Canis lupus familiaris), cats (Felis silvestris catus) and ferrets (Mustela putorius furo).
    • Breed: For Ferrets, put 'N/A'
    • Identification Number: For each pet, enter the transponder (microchip's) unique 15-digit code. If a tattoo was applied before 03/07/2011, enter the tattoo alphanumerical code instead. At the scheduled date, the OV will scan the microchip
    • Identification system: select of the following: transponder (microchip) or tattoo.
    • Date of Birth: note that certain Member States have informed that the movement into their territory of animals less than 16 weeks old is not authorised. In addition, if a young pet is authorised for travel out of GB, it will not be able to return until it has received an anti-rabies vaccination. In practice this means your pet must be at least 15 weeks old to enter GB.
  • Health Information

  • Notes:

    • Date of Implantation and/or Reading and Date of Vaccination:
      • The implantation of the microchip (or a clearly readable tattoo applied before 3 July 2011) must be verified before any rabies vaccination is administered.
      • The microchip implantation date must always precede the rabies vaccination date.
      • The microchip reading and rabies vaccination can occur on the same day, but the microchip must be implanted first.
      • Pay special attention to these dates as they are the most common reason for refusal of entry.
      • Your pet must be vaccinated against rabies at least 21 days prior to the AHC appointment.
      • A repeat rabies vaccination (booster) is not required as long as the rabies vaccination remains valid and up to date.
      • Ensure your pet’s last rabies vaccination is still valid. This information should be clearly stated in the supporting documents you submit.
      • If your pet receives a rabies vaccination while in the EU, a record of this vaccination must accompany the AHC certificate.
    • Name of Manufacturer of Vaccine, Batch Number and Validity Dates:
      • Ensure that details of the name and manufacturer of the vaccine, batch number and dates of validity,  are fully completed and accurate.
    • Validity of Vaccination FROM and "TO":
      • Validity “FROM”: This is the date 21 days after the rabies vaccination. Note that Day 1 is counted as the day after the vaccination.
      • Validity “TO”: This depends on the vaccine used:
        • For vaccines like Nobivac, Canigen, or Versiguard (UK), validity is typically 3 years.
        • For Rabisin, validity is 1 year, unless it was administered as a booster before the previous vaccination expired, in which case it is valid for 3 years.
        • EU-administered Rabies Vaccinations: Typically valid for one year
  • Note: Treatment for tapeworms is required when traveling with dogs (but not with cats or ferrets) from GB to EU-listed tapeworm-free countries, including Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Finland, Malta, and Norway. Dogs traveling to these countries must be treated for tapeworms by a veterinary surgeon not more than 120 hours (five days) and not less than 24 hours before the time of entry into one of these countries, and the treatment must be certified on the relevant section of the AHC.

  • Note: If you are on a short trip and returning to Great Britain within five days of departure with your dog(s), it is important to have your return tapeworm treatment performed by a veterinary surgeon before leaving Great Britain. This is because before returning to Great Britain, dogs (but not cats or ferrets) must be treated for tapeworms not less than 24 hours and not more than 120 hours (five days) before the time of entry, unless they are entering GB from Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Finland, Malta, or Norway.

  • Note: If you are staying in the EU more than five days with your dog(s), then a vet in the EU must administer the tapeworms treatment and certify the relevant section of the AHC.

  • Upload Supporting Documents

Proof of Rabies Vaccination and Microchip
  • Note: Please bring the original documents listed below to your appointment. Without these, we will be unable to issue your Animal Health Certificate (AHC).

Suitable evidence includes one or more of the following:

    • A Pet Passport (if applicable):This applies to vaccines administered prior to 1st January 2021). If you have a Pet Passport, include Sections I to V (pages 4 to 8), ensuring the passport serial number is clearly visible at the bottom of each page. Note: GB-issued pet passports are no longer valid for travel but can still be used as evidence of vaccination.
    • Rabies Vaccination Card or Certificate issued by your veterinarian: This document must show the details of the rabies vaccination, including the date and the microchip number. Only this document is needed if it provides proof of vaccination and microchip information.
    • Proof of Microchip Number and Implantation Date: The microchip number and implantation date must be clearly documented. If these details are not on the vaccination certificate or passport, additional proof will be required.
    • Other Supporting Documents: Any additional records that demonstrate compliance with microchipping and rabies vaccination requirements may be submitted to ensure accuracy.

Clarification on Requirements: You are not required to bring all these documents. Any one of the listed options that provides sufficient evidence of vaccination and microchip compliance will suffice.
If you have a rabies vaccination certificate and proof of your pet's microchip number and implantation date, these should be sufficient for your appointment.
