    As North Brisbane’s only Tongan cultural dance academy, Heilala is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich traditions of Tongan performing arts. 

    Our academy is open to everyone, welcoming people of all backgrounds who wish to embrace and celebrate Tongan heritage. Whether you have Tongan roots or simply a love for Pacific culture, you’ll find a place here to learn, connect, and move with meaning.

    Girls Siale (Junior 5 - 13 ages) - Monday 6:30pm 

    Girls Pua Tonga (Senior 14 /adult ages) - Monday 6:30pm

    Boys Kaute Kula (Junior 5 - 13 ages) - Monday 6.30pm

    Siale & Kaute Kula (Juniors) - X

    $15 p/w or full price $150

    2x Siale/Junior: $250 ($50 less) per term

    3x or more Siale & Kaute Kula/Junior: $300 per term - for every extra child is $50 each per term

    Pua Tonga (Seniors) - X

    $20 p/w or full price $200 

    2x Pua Tonga/Senior: $350 per term ($50 less) 

    3x or more Pua Tonga/Senior: $400 per term - for every extra adult $100 each per term.

    We understand that covering fees for our dance academy can sometimes be challenging, so we've provided several payment options to make it easier for you.

    Please choose the option that works best for you and commit to it. Every contribution goes directly toward keeping our academy running and supporting our dancers.

    • Weekly payments must be paid on Wednesdays or on day of class.
    • Upfront payments must be paid by ________ X. If you're registering during the term you only pay from the week you start and you have one week to make upfront payment.

  • Heilala Dance Academy Rules & Regulations

    Please read thoroughly
  • To ensure a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment, all students, parents, and staff must adhere to the following rules:

    1. General Conduct

    • Arrive on time for ako faiva; late arrivals may not be allowed to participate.
    • Show respect to instructors & pūnake, fellow students, and staff at all times. We DO NOT tolerate BULLYING 
    • No disruptive behavior, excessive talking, or inappropriate language.
    • Follow all instructions given by instructors & pūnake  promptly.
    • Maintain a positive attitude and support fellow dancers.

    2. Dress Code

    Wear appropriate ako faiva attire as per class requirements 

    • Always wear tupenu to ako faiva (practice). Males and Females. 
    • Shirts must have sleeves and cover chest areas for girls. Singlets not permitted. 

    3. Attendance & Commitment 

    • Regular attendance is expected; inform the academy in advance if unable to attend.
    • Missing too many classes may affect participation in performances. For example if you miss out on 4 classes. 
    • Students must attend all rehearsals before a performance unless excused by the instructor.

    4. Studio/Venue Etiquette

    • No food, gum, or drinks (except water) during ako faiva.
    • Keep the studio clean; dispose of trash properly.
    • No mobile phones or electronic devices during ako faiva.
    • Only students enrolled in the class are allowed in the dance area.

    5. Health & Safety 

    • Inform the instructor of any injuries or health issues before class.
    • Warm-up exercises are mandatory to prevent injuries.
    • No running or rough play in the studio.
    • Parents must pick up younger students promptly after class.

    6. Fees & Payments

    • Tuition fees must be paid on time; late payments may result in suspension from class.
    • No refunds for missed classes unless due to a medical condition with a doctor’s note.

    7. Performances & Competitions

    • Participation in performances is encouraged but must be confirmed in advance.
    • Students must follow all rehearsal schedules and costume requirements.
    • Parents and students must respect the academy’s decisions regarding casting and choreography.

    8. Code of Conduct for Parents & Guardians

    • Encourage and support your child but allow the instructor/ pūnake to do the teaching.
    • No interference during ako faiva —wait outside the studio if necessary.
    • Address any concerns with the management respectfully and privately.
    • By enrolling in HDA, students and parents agree to abide by these rules.
    • Parents must be willing to help make costumes. Staff will help. If you cannot comitt to costume making, staff can make it at a price depending on the type of costume. Costumes must be made in accordance to the pūnake's choosing. 
    • Failure to comply with these rules may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or dismissal from the academy.

    I HEREBY CONSENT to the Terms and Conditions set out in this registration form and any policies and procedures provided by the BRISBANE TONGAN COMMUNITY INC. t/as HEILALA DANCE ACADEMY. 

    I AGREE to pay the requisite fees as set out in this registration form below, relevant to my/my child(rens) registration:

    NB: Costs for excursions or costume costs are not included in these fees. If you have any issues, please contact our administrative team for alternative payment options.

    We understand that the Heilala Dance Academy has set protocols for the art of learning the traditional faiva Faka-Tonga and we will ensure that we as parents/guardians, together with our child/children enroled in the the academy will adhere to any policies and procedures set and will act with respect at all times.  We understand that students breaking these rules will be subject to appropriate action by the academy within its policies and procedures. 

    We understand that the foundations of the Heilala Dance Academy are set under the BRISBANE TONGAN COMMUNITY INC. Constitution, based on the following:

    Kakala ‘o e Tonga

    ​The fā’i kave’i koula – the core values that we carry in the inside and the defining elements that make Tonga – “Tonga.” 

    To be Tongan is to carry: 

    1. faka’apa’apa (reciprocal respect), 
    2. lototō (humility), 
    3. mamahi’i me’a (a sense of loyalty, passion tied to responsibility) and 
    4. tauhi vā (valuing relationships and in so doing maintaining them).

    These are bound by ‘ofa (love) within the context of kainga (extended family), without ‘ofa all else falls.

    Attire: All dancers are to wear appropriate attire, namely, sleeved shirt and tupenu during lessons.
