    • This form IS intended to help breeders/owners in determining if a dog or potential breeding bred in the US or Canada will be CWA eligible.
    • Foreign bred eligibility should not be reviewed using this form.
    • No pedigrees are submitted or reviewed while using this form.
    • It is the user's responsibility to research the test pedigree and answer the questions based on their knowledge of the pedigree to help with understanding eligibility.

  • 4 Generation Pedigree

  • We utilize a 4 generation pedigree for registering with CWA. The 4 generations start with sire and dam as generation 1, grandsires and granddams as generation 2 and so forth.

  • Ineligibility List

  • The dogs and persons named below are ineligible to compete in CWA events (ban is applicable to four generation pedigree):

    • Whippet Club Racing Association (WCRA) ban of all dogs owned or bred by Mr. D. Lytham (1979, England; verified by American Whippet Club in 1983)
    • North American Whippet Racing Association (NAWRA) ban of Mr. C. A. Lewis and Lyth Kennel (5/5/90, USA). On 10/1/97 NAWRA lifted the ban; on 11/26/97 the CWA Registration Committee voted to uphold the lifetime ban.
    • CWA ban, enacted July, 2019: All dogs owned in whole or in part by Jack Pulley (Sparta Whippets) are barred from participating in CWA Events. All dogs bred in whole or in part by Mr. Pulley, or sired by a dog owned in whole or in part by Mr. Pulley, and born after May 11, 2018 are barred from participating in CWA Events and are not eligible for CWA Registration. All dogs bred in whole or in part by Mr. Pulley, or sired by a dog owned in whole or in part by Mr. Pulley, and born after May 11, 2018 are barred from CWA eligibility in the required 4-generation pedigree for CWA Registration.       2019) For Sparta Whippets born before May 11, 2018:
      • No CWA Registrations will be issued to any Sparta Whippets unless they have an AKC DNA profile. DNA profiles of the said offspring can be taken at CWA expense.
      • No Sparta Whippet may appear in a 4-generation pedigree unless it has an AKC DNA profile. DNA profiles of the said offspring can be taken at CWA expense.
    • CWA ban enacted in October, 2021: All dogs owned in whole or in part by Deborah and/or Maurice Bahm (Debmar Whippets) are barred from participation in CWA events. All dogs bred by Deborah and/or Maurice Bahm born on or after August 17, 2021 are barred from participation in CWA events.
  • Open Race Champions

  • For the purposes of this section, the term “open straight racing champions” is defined as “a championship from any organization, in any country where racing is offered, which fails to inspect for all disqualifying faults as defined in the AKC Standard of the Whippet.” Domestic organizations and titles which fall under this rule include Whippet Racing Association (WRA) WRCH and WRCHX, North American Whippet Racing Association (NAWRA) RCH and SRCH, and Canadian American Racing Association (CARA) RChS and RChX. 


    Dogs with multiple appearances in the pedigree should only be counted once.

  • Competitive Bench Champions

  • For the purposes of this section, the term “competitive bench championship” is defined as a conformation championship which requires defeating other Whippets in competition to earn the title. The CWA Dual Purpose Champion (earned as defined in the CWA rules) counts as a competitive bench championship in pedigrees. 

    Dogs with multiple appearances in the pedigree should only be counted once.

  • Based on the information you provided, this dog/breeding would be eligibile to run in CWA.

  • Based on the information you provided, this dog/breeding would be not eligibile to run in CWA for the following reason(s):

    • There is at least one dog or affiliated breeder that CWA has banned in the pedigree.
    • There are too many open race champions within the four-generation pedigree.

    For all dogs born after August 1, 2022, pedigrees may not contain more than five open straight racing champions.

    • There are not enough competitive bench champions in the pedigree.

    For all dogs born after August 1, 2022, pedigrees must contain a minimum of four individual competitive bench champions.

    • There are not enough competitive bench champions in the pedigree.

    For all dogs born before August 1, 2022, pedigrees must contain a minimum of two individual competitive bench champions.

    • A competitive bench champion does not appear within the first three generations of the pedigree.

    For all dogs born after August 1, 2022, at least one competitive bench champion must appear within the first three generations.

    • Bench champions do not appear on both the sire and dam's sides of the pedigree.

    For all dogs born after August 1, 2022, competitive bench champions must be represented on both sides of the pedigree.
