Child care needs are being met for less than half 42% of families with young children in our community. Parents wait for multiple years on child care waitlists and for those lucky to secure a spot, they often find that it is not affordable, spending more than 30% of their income on child care. The goal of this survey is to determine interest among employers in the Truckee-Tahoe area in exploring the feasibility of creating an employer-sponsored child care facility to address these unmet needs.
For purposes of this survey, employer-sponsored child care is defined as multiple employers organizing together to provide convenient child care within or near the workplace to solve the child care needs of their working parents. Employers may assist the cooperative by helping with start-up expenses, contributing financially or by providing in-kind assistance like utilities, use of buildings and outdoor space, and/or other goods or services. Employers share the costs and benefits associated with the program and typically charge fees to employee-parents using the child care services.
