The intent of the Arcangel Gallery is to exhibit and uplift a diverse selection of artwork and artists that reflect the Botanical Gardens’ core values, inspiration of nature, and a passion for plants, people, places, and our planet. The Gallery is open to the public daily during regular business hours and is accessible to all guests during after-hours events. The Gallery is home to a variety of artists, near and far, specializing in a wide range of media.

    2. Core Values
The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens welcomes all visitors and is committed to creating an environment free of discrimination and harassment where all individuals are treated with respect. The Botanical Gardens strives to ensure that its collection, facilities, exhibits, and programming are inclusive and accessible in order to provide a successful and engaging experience for all audiences.

It is extremely important to us that the artists that are represented at the Botanical Gardens demonstrate the utmost respect for our historic conservatory, our grounds, campus buildings, plant collections, staff, volunteers, and visitors. We also require artists and their exhibits to uphold and represent our core values.

      We are fascinated by plants.
Plants provide fundamental nutrients that sustain life on our planet. We connect people to the power of plants through educational storytelling and an inspiring, immersive plant environment.

      We create wonder.
We are innovative and enthusiastic; we embrace possibility. Through curating rich and colorful educational experiences, we seek to inspire curiosity about the natural world.

      We respect our planet.
We recognize that Earth's health fundamentally depends on a thriving ecosystem of plants and pollinators. We respect our environment, preserve natural resources, and strive to improve sustainability.

      We welcome all.
The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens is for everyone. We are committed to being wholeheartedly inclusive, where all feel welcome. We continue to work to overcome barriers, address systemic injustices, and challenge ourselves to grow together and to be the most welcoming organization we can be.

      We celebrate our legacy.
We are stewards of our historic conservatory and our legacy. We celebrate the stories of those who came before us and excite generations of visitors into the future.

By signing this agreement, you are stating that you and your exhibit demonstrate alignment with and support of our core values listed above.

    5. Artist’s Responsibilities

      1. Works should be securely finished, including framing and hanging mounts when appropriate.
      2. Unframed canvas will not work as fresh air travels through the facility and canvas will not stay in place. Please keep in mind that we are an open air facility. Lightweight pieces will not hold up.
      3. Artist must provide between 25-30 pieces for the exhibit.
      4. Artist will create labels to be displayed next to each piece and must include “Title”, “Name of the Artist”, “Media” and “Price”.
      5. A title piece, exhibit explanation or an artist statement should be created and supplied by the artist.
      6. Works will be delivered to the Botanical Gardens, installed, and removed by the artist.
      7. The artist is responsible for packaging, shipping, delivering, removing, pick-up, and insurance during transport to and from the Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens has no responsibility for the damage or loss of the artworks during shipping, delivery, exhibit, removing, pick-up, and returning; this is the artist’s responsibility.
      8. Allow the works in the exhibition to be photographed by the public and Botanical Gardens’ staff and used for marketing purposes.
      9. Artist bios and exhibit information must be emailed to smooney@buffalogardens.com three months before the opening of the exhibit.
      10. Selling work – Artists may sell pieces from their exhibit. Payment for each piece will be handled through the Botanical Gardens Gift Shop.  At the conclusion of the exhibit, the Botanical Gardens will issue a check to the artist for the 60% (artist) /40% (the Botanical Gardens) split. Artists may choose between two options:
        1. All pieces (including sold pieces) will remain in the exhibit until the completion of the exhibit. Artists will remove all pieces from the show and make arrangements privately for the delivery and/or pick up of sold pieces. The Botanical Gardens will provide the contact information of each purchaser.
        2. Buyers may remove the artwork at time of purchase. The artist agrees to provide new artwork or to replace the sold pieces in a timely manner as pieces are sold to avoid any empty spaces.

      3. All reasonable care will be taken with Artwork by the Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens is not responsible for any loss, theft, or damage to the work; specifically, from the date of delivery to the Botanical Gardens until the date of delivery to a Purchaser or repossession by the Artist. The gallery will do all possible to ensure work remains safe.
