  • STARBASE Victory, Inc affirms its commitment to provide exciting innovative experiences that inspire students by awarding scholarships to exemplary students pursuing STEM and STEM related careers.  

    The Admiral William ‘Tball’ Hayden Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Student Scholarship Award recognizes outstanding high school seniors who are pursuing education and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. These students display a strong academic record in STEM related coursework, leadership skills and active involvement in STEM related activities and exemplify a genuine passion and commitment to pursuing a career in STEM related fields. Three (3) $5000.00 awards are available this year. One scholarship will be awarded to a student at each of the three high schools, Churchland, IC Norcom and Manor.      

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
    The applicant must be:
    1. A graduating senior from one of the public high schools in the Portsmouth School Division, Portsmouth Virginia). Note: Only one scholoarship awarded per school.
    2. A graduating senior with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
    3. Accepted by and enrolled in a college or University as a full-time student. NOTE: an official document verifying enrollment for the fall or spring semester of the application year must be provided before the actual scholarship award is disbursed.

    APPLICATION PROCEDURES
    The applicant will:
    1. Submit the original copy of a completed application form.
    2. Submit two (2) letters of recommendation which addresses the applicant’s
    leadership, citizenship, and character qualifications; the letter may come from a high school educator in the STEM or STEM related field, high school principal, a high school counselor, a club sponsor, community leader or a person in STEM field that can attest to the student’s performance with STEM. Note: The person writing the letter CANNOT be a relative.
    4. Submit an official high school transcript.

    5. Submit the application form and all requested items electronically to: www.starbasevictory.org.

    Applications are due by May 9, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

    APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY.
    HAND CARRIED APPLICATIONS AND TRANSCRIPTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Discuss some of the challenges you’ve encountered, innovative solutions you implemented and the impact these actions have had on your personal and academic growth. How do you envision your contributions to the STEM community and how will this scholarship support your goals?
