An Environmental Science Paid Summer Internship Program

APPLICATION DEADLINE WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27, 2024

The Cross College Alliance (CCA) is sponsoring the sixth year the Environmental Discovery Awards Program (EDAP) this summer to enrich the learning experiences of CCA students who are enrolled in or have a demonstrated interest in science and environmental studies and/or programs. EDAP will provide student awardees with high-quality, paid experiential learning internships.

Member organizations of the Science and Environment Council of Southwest Florida as well as other organizations are offering exceptional summer field experience internship opportunities to students enrolled in CCA institutions who are selected to participate in the 2024 Environmental Discovery Awards Program.

Interns will work no more than 29 hours per week for a duration of up to 10 weeks from late May through mid August. Interns will be paid at the rate of no less than $15 per hour.

Interns will be required to attend a program opening reception (in late May) to meet organizations and donors and an end of the progam celebration (in mid August) during which they will share a synopsis of their internship experience.

NOTE: Students may apply for more than one EDAP internship opportunity, however students must submit a seperate application for each internship for which they apply with unique responses to application questions that are pertinent to the particular internship opportunity.

STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDAP INTERNSHIPS

To participate in the EDAP program, students must:

1. Be enrolled in Spring 2024 courses in one of the CCA institutions: New College of Florida; State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota; The Ringling/FSU; Ringling College of Art + Design; University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee Campus.

2. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/good academic standing.

3. Substantiation of financial need as a Pell Grant receipient during the 2023 academic year, or to be able to show substantial financial need.

4. Enrollment in science and environmental studies programs or demonstrated interest

Internships will be in late May or early June 2024 through mid-August 2024: Internships will be no more than 10-weeks

Additional Financial Need Documents

The goal of the EDAP internship program, based on the wishes of the donor, is to provide paid internships for students at Cross College Alliance institutions who have financial need or would otherwise not be able to engage in work-based education if they were unpaid internships.

The primary way that we measure financial need is through receipt of a Pell Grant. If you are not a Pell Grant recipient, you can substantiate your financial need through one of the ways below:

(1) Provide proof of the receipt of other need-based scholarships you have received.

(2) Write a letter (no longer than 1 page) that details your extenuating circumstances or a lack of outside/family financial support for college and related expenses. Please also attach a pay stub (if applicablee) for a job or work-study position that supplements financial assistance

(3) Ask your institution's Registrar and/or Financial Aid Officer to provide a written statement that you have received financial assistance.
