The competition this year will consist of two categories:
- The Extemporaneous Speech - a prepared speech delivered using only an outline or notes.
- This speech can be informative or persuasive.
- It should be 4-6 minutes long.
- You should compose a document with your name, title of speech and your sources (at least 3) formatted in MLA. Download below and bring a hard copy to the event.
- The Impromptu Speech - Off the cuff speaking
- This speech will be composed during the competition after the prepared speeches.
- You will have 2 minutes to create a 1-2 minute response to a prompt.
- The prompt may be something like, "What can faculty, staff and students do to make this campus a livelier place?"
- The presentation can be in prose or poetic form.
- No submission requirements. Just register below and show up!
Here is the rubric that will define what we are looking for. Clearly, our expectations for the impromptu speech will be different however competitors should aspire to this rubric as best they can given the spontaneous nature of this category. RUBRIC
