      Before completing your appeal form, please take some time to read these notes:

      Darrick Wood School is a popular school and receives on average 1,000 applications for the 260 Year 7 secondary transfer places available and is oversubscribed with in-year applications for each year group.

      In order to ensure equal opportunity all applicants are considered under our published admissions policy, after the admittance of children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) where the school is named in Section I of their EHCP.

      In the event of over-subscription, the following criteria will apply in priority order:

      i) Children Looked After - Children in Public Care/Previously looked after children
      ii) Siblings of pupils in school at the proposed entry
      iii) Children of Staff at the school
      iv) Proximity - living close to the school based on a straight-line distance

      IN-YEAR APPEALS

      Appeals resulting from in-year admission applications will be heard within 30 school days of the date of receipt of completed appeal form.

      You have a statutory right to appeal, however, please be aware all places available have been offered. If any places are declined, they will be offered from the waiting list in the order of the published admissions criteria. Appeals can be stressful, and you need to consider carefully if you feel you have sufficient grounds for an appeal.

      Your completed appeal form will be sent to our Clerk who is independent of the school and will set up an independent panel to consider your case as required by the School Admissions Appeal Code.

      Our Clerk will advise you of the date and time of your appeal and will be your point of contact for any questions once your appeal has been received. You will be notified of the date and time of your appeal at least 2 weeks before your hearing, and at least 7 days before the appeal you will receive a statement outlining the reason why your child was not offered a place at the school.

      Please note that Parents/Carers will have their appeal hearing via Video Conferencing or a Telephone Conference.
