2023-24 The Friends of the Wildlife Corridor Scholarship
Scholarship Eligibility – Applicant must be a current, graduating senior from any PSJA ISD High School who has been accepted to an accredited trade school, college or university in the fall immediately following graduation.
Scholarship award will be given to a student whose work meets specific LRGV Learning Landscapes criteria. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Provide awareness within the district to promote the benefits of these natural spaces in the PSJA District.
- Develop instructional material in digital or printed forms that will assist teachers instruct outdoors, help them reinforce TEKS, and enable them to create spaces on their own.
- Support teachers, in the development and creation of LRGV Learning Landscapes within the district.
- Support the propagation of native plants, with particular emphasis on species of interest to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (such as native milkweeds).
- Construct benches, tables, or other materials that allow for instruction outdoors.
- Support the maintenance and care of LRGV Learning Landscapes.
- Assist teachers to ensure their LRGV Learning Landscape meets National Wildlife Federations’ schoolyard habitat criteria, apply for certification (if not yet certified), and assist the district to receive/continue certification.
Selected recipient will be awarded a $500 scholarship.
