  • Stress Colitis Information & Owner Acknowledgment

Stress colitis is a stress-related inflammation of the large intestine that can occur in dogs during boarding, pet sitting, travel, routine changes, separation from owners, or other stressful situations. Symptoms may include diarrhea, frequent bowel movements, mucus or blood in stool, vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, or accidents in the home. Younger dogs, anxious dogs, and dogs with prior gastrointestinal issues may be at higher risk.

Owners understand that stress-related illness can occur despite reasonable care and supervision. By using services through K. Lamar Goods & Services, owners acknowledge and accept the risk of stress-related conditions, including stress colitis, resulting from factors outside the pet sitter’s control.

    K. Lamar Goods & Services, its owners, employees, and contractors shall not be held liable for illness, injury, veterinary expenses, complications, or death related to stress colitis or other stress-related conditions, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct.

Owners are responsible for disclosing any known medical, gastrointestinal, anxiety-related, or behavioral conditions prior to booking.

    K. Lamar Goods & Services helps reduce stress by maintaining feeding schedules provided by the owner, providing a calm home environment, allowing free roam and minimal crating when appropriate, allowing dogs on furniture when permitted, and notifying owners immediately if symptoms arise.

Preventative Measures & Stress Reduction Practices

At K. Lamar Goods & Services, we prioritize maintaining a safe, calm, and low-stress environment for all pets in our care. While stress colitis and other stress-related illnesses can still occur despite proper care, we take several preventative measures to help reduce anxiety and support your dog’s overall well-being during their stay.

Preventative measures include, but are not limited to:

-Maintaining the feeding schedule, portions, dietary instructions, and routines provided by the owner whenever possible.
-Providing a calm, peaceful, and structured home environment designed to minimize stress and overstimulation.
-Allowing dogs to free roam within safe areas of the home and minimizing crate use whenever possible and appropriate for the dog’s safety and behavior.
-Allowing dogs on furniture, beds, and comfort areas consistent with what they may be accustomed to at home, unless otherwise instructed by the owner.
-Monitoring dogs closely for signs of stress, anxiety, digestive upset, illness, or behavioral changes throughout their stay.
-Notifying owners immediately if any symptoms of stress colitis, illness, injury, or unusual behavior become present.
-Providing access to fresh water, regular potty breaks, rest periods, affection, and supervised socialization as appropriate for each dog’s temperament and needs.

Although these preventative practices are intended to reduce stress and promote comfort, owners understand and acknowledge that animals may still experience stress-related conditions due to factors beyond the control of K. Lamar Goods & Services.
