      Instrumental Tuition Fees

Instrumental tuition fees are set by the Music Tutor and are approximately $38 - $42 per 30-minute lesson. Tuition fees are charged on a per term basis by the tutor. It is advisable for students of AMEB Grade 4 standard and above to receive 45-minute lessons, or as recommended by the tutor.

      Payment of Tuition Fees

Invoices from tutors must be paid by the specified date. If not paid, a reminder will be sent with payment required within two weeks. Unpaid accounts after this time will result in lessons being discontinued. If the student is in an ensemble, participation in this will also be suspended until the account is paid.

      Resource Fee

A resource fee for each instrument in which the student is enrolled is charged to the school fee account at $13.50 per term.

      Discontinuation

To discontinue lessons, at least four weeks’ notice before the final day of the term must be given to the Music Tutor and the School. Tuition will cease in the final week of that term. A 'Discontinue Lessons' form is available from the Music Department. Parents are asked to sign this. If insufficient notice has been given, parents may be charged for the next term’s fees.

      Guidelines for Successful Tuition

      • Instrumental / voice tuition is provided by qualified professionals.

      • An ‘Instrumental Music Lessons: Terms and Conditions’ agreement will need to be completed between the parent(s) and the Music Tutor.

      • Good communication is essential to successful instrumental learning. Parents are encouraged to contact the tutors or the school at any time with any problems regarding music lessons.

      • Reception to Year 12 students can learn more than one instrument through the Walford Music Department.

      • Lessons are scheduled on a rotating timetable where possible so that students are not absent from school lessons at the same time each week. In the Junior School, tutors negotiate lesson times directly with the class teacher. Year 11 and 12 students must attend lessons during free modules, before or after school, or at lunchtime.

      • Students taking music lessons must attend regularly and promptly and must undertake to practise daily. Music diaries are available from tutors at no charge. Parents are asked to check and sign this every week.

      • Practice: As a very general guide depending on age and ability, students should be practising the following amounts per day:

        Beginners

        20 minutes (2 x 10 minutes)

        Grades 1 to 4

        30 minutes

        Above Grade 4

        45 minutes – 1 hour

      • All students enrolled in instrumental, or voice tuition should be diligent in checking lesson timetables pinned on the notice board in the Music Department so that attendance can be reliable. It is the responsibility of the student to inform her tutor well in advance if she cannot attend a lesson.
