  • Newburyport Art simply could not exist without its volunteers. We are so grateful for the volunteer support we receive throughout its many forms — from our Board Members who serve multi-year terms, to devoted artist members serving on a longstanding committee, to those helping hands which set up table and chairs or assist with gallery work. There is no form of support that's "too small", and our membership and community are strengthened and enhanced by your generosity.

    This is an ever-evolving volunteer call-out form...new opportunities will be added over time while others will be cycled out (due to being temporarily full or perhaps "out of season"). A brief write-up on each area of need is provided and you are encouraged to complete the form, indicating your area(s) of interest.

  • Current Opportunities

    • Arts Symposium "extra hands" 

    • The NAA Arts Symposium (taking place April 19–21) will be a weekend full of artist talks, panel discussions, demonstrations, networking opportunities, and more. The Saturday and Sunday in particular will require some general "extra hands" to assist with tasks like:

      • setting up tables and chairs
      • monitoring and refreshing coffee and snack levels
      • greeting and checking in attendees
      • general NAA representation; talk about Newburyport Art with visitors and guests
    • Facilities Enthusiast (NAA Buildings Committee) 

    • Newburyport Art owns and occupies a 5,500-square-foot historic building and site that dates back to the mid-1700s. We have recently completed a structural assessment of the property and are ready for volunteer assistance to begin tackling projects — small and large.

      To get started, volunteers will first meet with the members who have already formed a small buildings group to discuss "where we are", identify "who we have here to support the building projects and with what experience", and then to determine action steps and "what happens next". Your feedback, based on your individual experience and expertise, will be most welcome during such discussions, and your hands-on assistance (which may mean project management, contractor oversight, or even networking for contacts) would be welcome after that as well!

    • Facilities Enthusiast (Garden & Grounds) 

    • While the focus of NAA artist artwork is often "in the galleries", the Sculpture Garden is one of the most beloved and visited aspects of Newburyport Art. At nearly 3,000 square feet, the Garden abuts the Rail Trail and draws in thousands of visitors every year.

      We are hoping for assistance from folks interested in improving our Sculpture Garden. Example areas include:

      • Planting
      • Weeding
      • Landscaping
      • General Maintenance
    • Fun and Fundraising Enthusiast 

    • Do you have a background in nonprofit development & fundraising? We would love to hear from you! There is much work to be done, and Newburyport Art is ripe with opportunities in the areas of development & fundraising as we look to create a multi-pronged program.

      This is not quite a call for volunteers with new show ideas or event ideas that could be used to generate revenue, but rather this is more a call for folks with specific experience in traditional nonprofit development work. With the guidance of the Executive Director and Board, we hope that these volunteers will also be up for taking on some of the necessary research for funding opportunities from grants and private foundations, while helping to look into appropriate sponsorship opportunities, and more.

    • Food & Drink (non-alcoholic) Potential Donor 

    • Everyone loves a reception, right? Signing up as a volunteer in this area simply means that we will add you to a list of potential donors of food & drink. Approximately 1-2 weeks away from a reception, we will contact a couple potential donors to see if there is capacity to provide food & drink. We would plan to rotate these asks across the full list of potential donors before returning to someone who has already donated.

      Unfortunately, due to strict regulations enforced by the City of Newburyport, no homemade foods are acceptable, nor are any perishable foods. Common reception snacks might include:

      • Bottled water
      • Seltzer water (flavored or unflavored)
      • Plasticware and napkins
      • Salty snacks that can quickly be made ready for single serving; for example, this might include individual single-serving bags of chips or it might include nuts or Goldfish that can be quickly poured into small serving cups
      • Sweet snacks, such as cookies, Fig Newtons, individually wrapped chocolates, etc.

      Signing up to be a potential donor only means you may be contacted about this opportunity in the future.

    • Virtual Tour Creator 

    • Newburyport Art just recently launched a virtual tour initiative. The primary goal is to improve access to our Mural and Hartson Galleries (which are currently only accessible by stairs). A full building tour is also available for current members through their member portal, with the potential for further tour enhancements.

      If you have experience in creating Virtual Tours, we'd love to hear from you. If you believe you have the technical aptitude to do something like this, we'd also be happy to chat more so that we can keep this important initiative alive.

      Thanks to an anonymous donor, coupled with support from the H. Patterson Hale Charitable Foundation, we have a Trisio Lite 2 360-degree camera that operates through an app that is downloadable to any mobile phone. The app can also be readily accessible through our gallery iPad. If you have your own 360-degree camera, that's great, too! We only require that files be named very specifically and carefully before completing the tour. To create the tour itself, NAA currently uses Panoraven.

    • Bartender for NAA's Annual Art Auction (9/21/24) 

    • Newburyport Art's Annual Art Auction is the single largest fundraising event of the year for the NAA, raising one-third of its annual income in one night! This year's auction will be held on September 21st and it promises to be another unforgettable evening.

      The first volunteers we are looking to secure for this event are the night's bartenders. No mixing or bartending experience is required. Guests will be offered beer, wine, pre-made cocktail, or non-alcoholic beverage. The only requirement is that bartenders be TIPS-certified. Certification costs $38 and takes approximately 3 hours of online training, with your certification remaining valid for three years.

      (Please note that as this is a fundraising event, we do ask that bartenders not accept tips from patrons.)
