Board Members are leaders who volunteer their time and expertise to oversee the successful implementation of ArtsEd Washington’s Mission. Through monthly video meetings and occasional special events in person, Board Members actively engage in Organizational Development, Regional Advocacy, Community Engagement & PR, Financial Oversight, and Fundraising.
To reduce the monetary obstacle that often limits diversity on Boards, we do not require large membership fees. Rather, Board Members support the organization's financial sustainability through a combination of methods: providing hands-on time to support fundraising efforts, procuring financial support through their networks, and making regular financial contributions that are personally meaningful to them. Board members serve terms of approximately 2 years, with a monthly average of 3 hours for AEW meetings and asynchronous communications, and occasionally up to 5 hours for special events and representation in their own community.
Board members are often leaders with knowledge and skills such as:
-Advocacy and systems change
-Community engagement and PR
-Educational leadership
-Financial oversight and fundraising
-Organizational development
Community-based Ambassadors are likely already connected with at least one area of arts, education, or equity work in their region, and they will serve as a liaison between the artistic and/or education community and AEW. Each month, ambassadors will share (via video meeting or via asynchronous on-line communications) the recent needs/opportunities/celebrations in their community and learn about those from other ambassadors throughout the state. These communications help us identify trends and priorities to share with the public and with decision-makers throughout the state! Ambassadors serve for approximately one year at a time, and also share AEW’s resources with their community as needed!
Ambassadors are often connected with local arts, education, or equity work such as:
-School employee or retiree
-College student studying arts and/or education
-Parent/guardian of a student who loves the arts
-Professional who partners with local school programs
ArtsEd Washington seeks to develop a Board of Directors with a strategic combination of personal attributes, knowledge/expertise and competencies which ensure that our Board, as a collective body, has a diversity of experiences, perspectives, information, connections, and skills to carry out its governing and volunteering functions. We also aim for strategic combinations within our Ambassador Program. As cohorts change from year to year, it is possible that your unique contributions might better suit the Board of Directors OR the Ambassador Program depending on the surrounding members. As such, you might wish to be considered for the Ambassador Program and/or Board of Directors.
