Introductory Information for Applicants
The ACPA Leadership Council Nomination and Election process provides a defining moment in the development of our organization. It is an opportunity to ensure that people with the necessary competencies are leading ACPA and providing governance that will secure the future of the organization, fulfill the objectives of the association, and deliver long lasting sustainable benefits and results. It is also an opportunity to try to ensure that from the outset as many leaders as possible have the diversity, equity, and inclusion understanding and competencies, as well as commitment and confidence to deliver on the explicit strategic priorities of ACPA.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion skills are critical requirements of leadership in ACPA. Embedding and integrating these competencies into core or mainstream activities is a challenge that organizations have struggled with in the past, but ACPA has a legacy and a commitment to do our very best. ACPA members of color, Indigenous, trans, gay, lesbian, and bisexual members, women, members with disabilities, and members with other minoritized or silenced identities are encouraged to apply. This commitment is even more important given ACPA's centering of the Strategic Imperative for Racial Justice and Decolonization. It is critical that the leaders of our Association and field possess the knowledge, skills, experiences, and competencies for engaging and partnering with individuals and groups from multiple identities and have the capacity to integrate a diversity of views and information into decision-making. Additionally, applications will be reviewed for effective written communication, as evidenced through quality of application and full articulation of responses to questions.
Candidates are encouraged to consult with supervisors, mentors, current or previous governance leaders, and others in their network about your interest in the position and time/effort commitments required in advance of applying.
