• APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM APPLICATION

    The Apprenticeship program is Camp Sunny's counselor-in-training (CIT) program for children ages 12-15 who demonstrate responsibility, positivity, and strong values.
  • The American Camp Association praises CIT programs as an essential part of a strong camp culture. Benefits of Camp Sunny's Apprenticeship program include learning interpersonal skills, teamwork, and leadership development. Over the years, dozens of former Apprentices have returned to work as counselors, coaches, and even department managers at Sun Country.

    Apprentices always work under Camp Sunny staff supervision.

     

    Apprenticeship Training Goals:

    • Teach and play with children of all ages
    • Learn to maintain group control
    • Utilize proper techniques in dealing with children
    • Follow assigned rotations
    • Facilitate snack and lunches
    • Become Rock Wall Auto-Belay certified (for APP’s 14 years and older)
    • Practice safety in and around the gym
    • Utilize gymnastics equipment properly
    • Classroom training and discussions
    • Working with peers and mentors
    • Staying focused and goal oriented
    • Accountability (showing up on time, calling in advance when you can’t make it, being prepared)
    • Preparing to become a paid Sun Country employee

     

    Summer Camp Activities Include:

    • All of the above training goals
    • Assisting current Sun Country staff in Summer Camp
    • Safe, summer fun in a secure and nurturing environment
    • Afternoon group time and team building activities
    • Meetings each morning on training and leadership development (9:30 – 11:30 AM)

     

    All apprentices are required to pay full price for the corresponding weeks of Summer Camp and must register for the full day option.
