What is the SPARK Sculpture at Louisville Visual Art (LVA)? The SPARK Sculpture is a large work of art that the artist team HADDAD|DRUGAN has been commissioned to create. It will be installed on the side of LVA’s building at 1538 Lytle Street in the summer of 2024. SPARK stands for Student + Professional Art Resources + Knowledge - and that's what you will find at LVA's Lytle Street building! The SPARK sculpture includes bright metal elements and clear rods that light up similarly to neon tubes. The work will also have many “icons” painted onto the wall around the main “SPARK” shape using a stencil process. These “icons” will be designed by YOU! - children and adults in the communities that LVA serves - and will represent the diversity and creativity of the participants.

Your creativity and participation are essential to making this project truly representative of our diverse community. Please fill out the following form to submit your SPARK icon design for consideration: Designs will be excluded from consideration at LVA's discretion if they contain inappropriate imagery such as vulgar, offensive, or threatening words, symbols, images, etc. It is also possible that we may need to slightly modify your stencil in order to make it work in the overall design. We will notify you if changes need to be made.

Photo Submission Requirements: Please remember that stencils work best on a sqaure piece of paper. Additonally the "positive part" of your SPARK icon design will need to be filled in with BLACK Sharpie. That is the shape that will be cut out to make the “hole” for the spray paint to hit the wall and become part of the SPARK sculpture. To get best composition and focus, it is recommended to position the camera or smartphone directly over the stencil. Ensure that when photographing your stencil, that your stencil is flat and is placed on a surface that is free of distractions.
File Upload (acceptable files include jpg, jpeg, png, heic, heif, pdf) The size of images should be no smaller than 1000 pixels in the long dimension and no larger than 2000 pixels in the long dimension, with an image resolution of 300 pixels per inch. The total size of image should be no bigger than 4 mg.
