    Demographic Questionnaire
  • SCAR requests your participation in a brief (estimate 5-8 mins to fill in), voluntary demographic questionnaire.

This questionnaire will help SCAR better understand the demographics of our conference participants and evaluate the representation of SCAR's constituent communities as we work to make SCAR events and activities more inclusive. You are welcome to respond to all, some, or none of the questions below. The fully anonymous data will be used and shared with a small group within the SCAR Secretariat and the SCAR Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Action Group both for reporting purposes, as well as informing further work.

The data is collected and managed in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
If you wish to withdraw your data after completing the survey, you may do so by contacting info@scar.org.

We thank you for your participation in this anonymous questionnaire, please remember that you can choose to skip questions if you prefer not to disclose some information. Any groupings or demographic information under 5 individuals won't be disclosed, minimising the potential for any individual to be identifiable. All questions are voluntary, however, having better data is essential for increasing our understanding of the community, its perceptions and needs.

  • Demographic Questionnaire

  • The categories above were chosen following the recommendation by the United Nations Statistics Division on data collection on Ethnocultural characteristics, with an option for individuals to self-describe their racial and ethnic background.

  • “Usual language” is defined as the language currently spoken, or most often spoken, by an individual in their present day to day.

  • Demographic Questionnaire II

  • EDI is the abbreviated term for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. It ensures fair treatment and opportunity for all, with the aim of eliminating prejudice and discrimination based on an individual group's character traits.

In 2021, SCAR approved the EDI Action Group. The group is tasked with broadly looking at how EDI issues can be effectively dealt with within SCAR, and what practical actions are relevant for the organisation. Click here to learn more about the SCAR EDI Action Group and how to get involved.

  • Are you willing to respond a few questions about bullying and harassment?

These responses will be completely anonymous. The data collected will help inform SCAR community engagement and understanding of existing challenges around bullying & harassment. We hope to publish the data in an ongoing effort to have more literature available on EDI challenges in Antarctic research).
