When showing up to hike with me, you are agreeing to the following…

Fat Stoner Babes Hiking Club is an informal group of people hiking together. The “Club” has no legal status, structure, officers, or assets. One of the group members serves on a volunteer basis as hike / nature adventure planner & guide. The volunteer Planner / Guide acts on behalf of the group to set standards of physical preparedness & suitable trail conduct for participation on the hikes.

In consideration for my acceptance as a participant on these outings (“Events”), & any services & amenities to be provided by Fat Stoner Babes Hiking Club in connection with these Events, I confirm my understanding & agreement of the following :

I have read any rules & conditions applicable to the Event made available to me. (Don’t be a Dick. Don’t be a Karen. Don’t be a Creep. No alcohol before or during hikes. Leave No Trace. Follow trail + park rules.)

I acknowledge my participation is at the discretion of the Fat Stoner Babes Hiking Club.

I understand that Fat Stoner Babes Hiking Club reserves the right to exclude from the trip any person they judge to be incapable of meeting the rigors of participating in the activities or who refuses or is unwilling to follow the directives of the Hike Guide(s).

The Event does not include carpooling, transportation, or transit to & from the Event, & I am personally responsible for all risks associated with this travel.

I understand that during my participation in a Fat Stoner Babes Hiking Club outing, I may be exposed to a variety of hazards & risks, foreseen or unforeseen, which are inherent in each Event & cannot be eliminated without destroying the unique character of the Event. These hazards & dangers could result in personal injury, illness, emotional distress, property damage, & death. These hazards & dangers may include, but are not limited to, falling, falling objects, drowning, temperature exposure, equipment failure, improper use of equipment, inadequate or improper instruction or assistance, exposure to wild animals including poisonous animals, insects, debris, plants, unpredictable forces of nature, inclement weather, dehydration, unsanitary water. Bow & other hunting may be permitted in certain hiking areas, & hikers are urged to take precautions, including distinctive dress, to reduce the chances of being shot.

I do hereby affirm & acknowledge that I have been fully informed of the inherent hazards & risks associated with hiking, transportation of equipment related to the activities, & traveling to & from activity sites, in which I am about to engage. Inherent hazards & risks include but are not limited to:

1. Risk of injury from the activity & equipment utilized is significant including the potential for permanent disability & death.

2. Falling, causing broken bones severe injuries to the head, neck & back which may result in severe impairment or even death.

3. All acts of nature, including but not limited to avalanche, rock fall, inclement weather thunder & lighting, severe & or varied wind, temperature & other weather conditions.

4. Risks associated with crossing, climbing or down-climbing of rock, snow &/or ice.

5. Risks associated with river & creek crossings & swimming in natural bodies of water.

6. Possible equipment failure &/or malfunction of my own or other’s equipment, which may have been rented, borrowed, or personally owned.

7. My own negligence &/or the negligence of others.

8. Cold weather & heat related injuries & illness including but not limited to frostnip, frost

bite, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, sunburn, hypothermia & dehydration.

9. Attack by or encounter with insects, reptiles, &/or animals, including large game & predators.

10. Accidents or illness occurring in remote places where there are no available medical facilities.

11. Fatigue chill, &/or dizziness, which may diminish my / our reaction time & increase the risk of accident.

12. My sense of balance, physical coordination, & ability to follow instructions.

*I understand the description of these risks is not complete & that unknown or unanticipated risks may result in injury, illness, or death.

If I decide to leave early & not complete the Event as planned, I assume all risks inherent in my decision to leave & waive all liability against Fat Stoner Babe Hiking Club arising from that decision. Likewise, if a Guide has concluded the Event, & I decide to go forward without the Guide, I assume all risks inherent in my decision to go forward & waive all liability against Fat Stoner Babes Hiking Club arising from that decision.

I confirm my assumption of all Risks, whether known or not & whether identified or not, & my acceptance of all materials, equipment, & facilities associated with the Risks &/or the Activities in an AS IS condition. I accept that I may sustain Damages, including Damages that could be caused by Fat Stoner Babes Hiking Club, third parties, &/or me.

Further, I understand I have responsibility for my physical safety & the safety of others who are hiking with me; I appreciate that I may have to exercise extra care for my own person & for others around me in the face of such Hazards. I am aware that these activities entail the risk & danger of accident or negligent injury or death to myself & others; I agree to assume full responsibility for the risk & dangers identified herein. I further understand that on this Event there may not be rescue or medical facilities, first aid, or the expertise necessary to deal with the injuries & damages to which I may be exposed.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, I agree to WAIVE, DISCHARGE CLAIMS, & RELEASE FROM LIABILITY Fat Stoner Babes Hiking Club & other volunteer Hike Planners & Guides associated with this Event from any & all claims & demands, actions, causes of action, damages, costs, loss of services, expenses, & any & all other claims whatsoever, both in law & in equity, on account of, or in any way resulting from, personal injuries, conscious suffering, death, property loss or damages or other loss or damage sustained by me or caused by accident, casualty, occurrence or negligence to me arising out of any activities of the Club, their agents, assistants & volunteer hike guides, or in any way connected with the Event. I further agree to HOLD HARMLESS Fat Stoner Babes Hiking Club & their volunteer Hike Guides from any claims, damages, injuries or losses caused by my own negligence while a participant in the Event in connection with any loss of life, personal injury or damage to property or business arising out of or in any way connected with the Event to the extent caused by me.

I agree to assume full responsibility for the risk & dangers identified herein & for all of those risks & dangers that are inherent in any of the FSBHC activities; I assume full responsibility for myself as well as for all minor children & pets who may participate with me. All pets brought to the Event are current on all vaccinations.

This Agreement is intended to be as broad & inclusive as is permitted by law. If any provision or any part of any provisionaa of this Agreement is held to be invalid or legally unenforceable for any reason, the remainder of this Agreement shall not be affected thereby & shall remain valid & fully enforceable.

What is your Hiking Skill Level?

Novice: Someone who is new to hiking or has little experience with hiking. A pace for a beginning hiker would be slow or easy paced. This person may not exercise in other areas of their life. Or they may & just be new to hiking. Elevation gains & distances are minimal. Surfaces are generally flat with minimal difficult terrain.Advanced Novice: A person new to hiking but still unfamiliar with different types of terrain or elevation gains. They may have experienced hikes of a few hours with small levels of inclines of 500-1000 feet. An advanced novice hiker hikes at a generally easy pace but may have to take breaks more frequently as the distance or elevation of the hike increases.Moderate: This type of person hikes on a more regular basis. This type of person may also partake in more frequent types of exercise in other aspects of their life. Hikes can last for half a day & have elevation gains of a few thousand feet. A moderate hiker will be able to hike at a faster pace & be able to handle longer inclines without feeling exhausted. At this stage, a moderate hiker has also started venturing out into hikes with different weather conditions that require more planning.Advanced Moderate: This person has experience with many hikes lasting at least half a day. This type of hiker is able to handle elevation gains of several thousand feet. Hiking takes place at a moderate pace but the hiker also has enough experience of when to slow the pace to conserve energy. Hikes can last all day. An advanced moderate hiker also has experience hiking in different weather conditions & has a general idea of what to prepare for in colder & hot conditions.Expert: This type of hiker has had much experience with day hikes & hiking in different weather conditions. At this point, the hiker is prepared to be out there throughout the night, has the knowledge of when to hike at a fast pace, at a slow pace to conserve energy, & when to rest. This type of hiker will be able to plan hikes of up to a few days & how to plan accordingly.Expert Backpacker: There are different levels of a backpacker just as there are a hiker. But, an expert backpacker is someone who has been hiking for multiple days at a time & has put together at least a week of hiking/camping time in. This type of hiker is prepared to take on several days of hiking through various types of wilderness.
