OPM is thrilled to offer a Member Workshop with oil and watercolor artist Karlyn Eckman.
This workshop is designed for Beginner and Intermediate plein air painters. Karlyn will demonstrate her set-up, materials and methods, starting with close observation and preparation of one or more small value sketches. She will discuss composition, color, value, and the other basic elements of painting en plein air. This is a great opportunity for artists wanting to try plein air for the first time or current plein air artists that want to try a different medium or learn more from an experienced painter.
Karlyn will be available in the afternoon to assist and coach participants, especially newer OPM members. For the afternoon Paint-Out participants should bring their own easel and painting supplies. Karlyn will have a few extra plein air easels on hand for those without a professional kit. OPM will provide 8x10 canvases and some basic oil and gouache supplies for painters interested in giving them a try.
Karlyn Eckman works in oil and watercolor and is a metalpoint artist and instructor. She is a retired professor with the University of Minnesota Departments of Forest Resources, Water Resources Science, and Natural Resources Science and Management. Karlyn has been a resident artist at Pine Needles, a joint program of the Minnesota Science Museum and the St. Croix Watershed Research Station. She enjoys interpreting a landscape from the diverse perspectives of a forest hydrologist and landscape artist.
Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve (University of Minnesota) is dedicated to understanding our planet’s ecosystems and how they are changing under human pressure. Through research, conservation, education and public engagement, Cedar Creek seeks to bridge the gaps between science, community and government.
For the Workshop and Paint-Out, be sure to bring all weather gear and supplies for the day ... including rain coat, cap, sunscreen, insect repellent, drinking water, and lunch.
This workshop is included with annual membership in Outdoor Painters of Minnesota. Non-members may attend for a $25 registration fee. Registration is required.
