VBHF is wholly dedicated to ensuring that members are enjoying themselves in their pursuit of the art. We seek to achieve this through clear and concise instruction, fun and engaging practice material, and individualized practice pacing. Members are welcome to be as dedicated or as casual as they wish to be. VBHF strongly believes that students should be comfortable to express dissenting opinion in the interpretation of technique and exercise practice. Constructive criticism is welcome as a helpful mechanism for improving student experience. To ensure this goal, VBHF members agree to the following:
1. Fencers shall not discriminate against anyone for any reason including but not limited to race, gender, sexual preference, or personal identity.
2. Fencers shall not make unwanted sexual or romantic remarks including but not limited to explicit comments, innuendos, solicitations, or repeated requests.
3. Fencers shall not use offensive language towards any person nor towards any group of people.
4. Fencers shall conduct themselves with family friendly behavior by avoiding swearing or making inappropriate comments even when joking.
5. Fencers shall keep all discussions civil.
6. Fencers shall not engage in reckless sparring aimed at causing harm to the opponent.
7. Fencers shall adhere to any and all direction expressed by officers regarding safety while sparring.
8. Fencers shall not wrestle with their opponent's while sparring unless all parties involved in sparring mutually agree and an officer approves.
9. Fencers shall avoid practice when sick to reduce the risk of club shutdowns.
Failing to adhere to the code of conduct or the mission statement of VBHF will result in fencers being expelled from all VBHF activities. Expulsion of fencers is determined solely by the Hauptman but enforced by all officers. By signing this Code of Conduct, the fencer agrees to uphold the mission statement of VBHF as well as adhere to the explicit rules stated above.
