  • ABWHE 2024 Scholarship Application

    To be considered for an ABWHE Textbook Scholarship, please complete the application inclusive of uploading your resume and essay to this form. Official transcripts should be sent to the ABWHE Scholarship Committee at admin@awhe.org. All application materials must be submitted by 11:59 PM EST, July 8, 2024.  Please make sure to answer all sections of the application completely.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  • About ABWHE:

    ABWHE has chapters in Chicago, New Jersey, Minnesota, New York, Philadelphia, and a Virtual chapter. Since its founding in 1978, ABWHE has served as a forum for developing strategies to improve the quality of education of Black people, with particular emphasis on encouraging Black youth to take full advantage of available educational opportunities. ABWHE is committed to aiding Black women in the academy to fulfil their own aspirations as well as encouraging Black youth to pursue their education.  ABWHE’s motto is, “TO LIFT AS WE CLIMB.”

  • Purpose:

    To provide financial assistance to deserving college students who need additional funds to purchase textbooks or reference books for their academic programs and who wish to contribute to the field of higher education upon graduation.
  • Eligibility Requirements:

    Be an undergraduate student (rising sophomore, junior, senior) enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester (at least half-time) at a college or university with a cumulative GPA of 2.50. Or, be a graduate student enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester (at least half-time) with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. Be involved in on campus organizations and/or community service Black women students are encouraged to apply.
  • Award Amount:

    Two scholarships will be awarded at $500 each. Award may be used to assist in covering books for the 2024 -2025 Academic Year
  • How to Apply:

    1) Complete an ABWHE Textbook Scholarship Application. 2) Provide a résumé highlighting your leadership positions, academic honors, special awards, work experiences, and community activities.   3) Submit a typed essay that discusses: why you have selected your chosen major, how you plan to contribute to the field of higher education and the community upon graduation, and how you plan to lift as you climb (350 word minimum). 4) Provide one letter of support from a university official (i.e. faculty member, advisor, mentor, coach) or from an active ABWHE member that speaks to how receiving this scholarship will assist you in achieving your academic goals. 5) Submit an official transcript to: abwhe@abwhe.org.
